Hello everyone, I recently assembled an IKEA Hemnes wardrobe and noticed that the doors don’t fit properly – they stick in some places or don’t close flush. I know that the doors in the HEMNES series come with special adjustment hinges that are supposed to allow correcting fit issues. However, I’m unsure how exactly to adjust the doors to align them correctly in height, width, and depth.
Could you please provide a detailed guide on how to properly adjust IKEA HEMNES doors when they don’t fit? Which screws need to be turned, in what order, and by how much, without risking damage to the hinges or the door?
It would also be helpful to know if there are any special considerations with this series, as the door edges seem to be somewhat delicate. Thanks in advance!

The door on HEMNES units can usually be adjusted with three screws on the hinges: vertical adjustment via the screw on the hinge arm, horizontal adjustment on the main hinge part, and depth adjustment with the top screw. This brief summary is accurate. I would only add that the height adjustment typically uses an Allen screw (usually 3mm (0.12 inches)), while the other screws require a Phillips screwdriver. Before making adjustments, make sure the cabinet itself is installed plumb against the wall, as this base affects the door alignment.

Important: Always make only small adjustments to the screws and open and close the door several times in between. This is a crucial tip. Fine-tuning requires patience. Especially when there are multiple doors on the cabinet, each should be adjusted individually before checking the overall alignment.
Thank you very much for the helpful advice. One more question: Is it possible that doors need to be adjusted differently due to manufacturing tolerances, or is it almost always related to the installation/cabinet itself?
I ask because I have to make noticeably different door adjustments on two identical Hemnes cabinets, even though everything was assembled the same way.

Is it possible that the doors need different adjustments due to manufacturing tolerances, or is it almost always because of the installation/carcass?Both factors can play a role. Manufacturing tolerances for doors and hinges are generally minimal at IKEA but not impossible. More often, slightly varying angles of the carcass or uneven surfaces where it stands are the cause. The adjustment is specifically meant to compensate for these minor inaccuracies.
