Hello everyone, I have been experiencing an issue with my Ikea PAX wardrobe where the doors no longer close properly. They either get stuck or remain slightly ajar, even though I have adjusted the screws multiple times. The hinges don’t seem to be damaged, and I have checked that the cabinet frame is still level. Are there any specific tips or adjustments to keep in mind for PAX doors to ensure they close cleanly again? I am using the system with the standard concealed hinges, and the doors are double-leaf. Thank you in advance for any advice or instructions!
Hello Tannerda! 😊 I’m very familiar with the problem with PAX doors. Often, it helps to completely loosen the hinges and then gradually reattach them, carefully checking whether the door is truly hanging straight. Sometimes the small plastic clips on the back of the door are slightly bent, which can affect closing. Take a look underneath there! And don’t give up—you can fix it, I’ve managed it several times myself! 👍
Hello Tannerda, your issue sounds typical for minor misalignments with PAX fronts. A properly adjusted PAX wardrobe with double doors requires that - the hinges are precisely mounted on the mounting plate (there are often two positions: front/back) - the cabinet is level and not warped (check with a spirit level on several planes) - the doors are correctly aligned in height and depth using the adjustment screws - the soft-close mechanisms on the hinges are functioning properly Depth adjustment of the hinges often controls the gap between the door and the cabinet and is crucial for smooth closing. If you don’t have a hinge adjustment tool yet, a small Phillips screwdriver with a thin shaft works perfectly, as it allows for finer adjustments. Can you tell me if the doors tend to stick more in the middle or at the edges?

Can you say whether the doors are sticking more in the middle or at the edges? Good question, the exact location really matters! On one hand, it could be due to alignment; on the other, it might be because of warped frames or even that the cabinet is no longer perfectly level. Sometimes you only notice this when you measure very precisely using a spirit level and tape measure.

That means when I close both doors, there is a small gap at the top, while at the bottom the doors press slightly against each other, so they don’t close completely flush. I have tried adjusting the depth and height using the adjustment screws, but it only seems to affect part of the door. The cabinet frame itself appears to be quite straight based on my inspection.
Hey, it sounds like your doors might not be perfectly aligned with each other – these so-called hinge adjustments can be quite tricky in my opinion, but usually enough to fix the problem. 😊 Imagine the doors are like two dance partners that can’t quite connect properly.
I would recommend carefully going through the horizontal adjustment of the hinges: this lets you move the door left or right, which is especially important for double doors to ensure perfect alignment at the top and bottom.
Fun fact: I had the same issue with my PAX doors, and after some patience, tightening the screws worked wonders. Sometimes it’s worth turning each screw in small increments and testing as you go.
