Hello dear IKEA fans,
I hope you can help me here, as I haven’t been able to get any assistance from the hotline.
I want to buy a Pax sliding door wardrobe, the model with a height of 236 cm (7 ft 9 in).
According to the assembly instructions, the room should be 240 cm (7 ft 10 in) or taller.
Unfortunately, at the lowest point I only have 238.5 cm (7 ft 10 in) and at the highest just under 240 cm (7 ft 10 in).
The carcass can also be assembled standing up, so in that regard it should be possible. But will the sliding doors still be able to be hung then?? 😕 😕 That’s my big problem!!!!
Thank you very much for your help!

Bruno_486828 Mar 2010 20:49Hello everyone,
I’m giving a 50% progress update!
Here’s what I’ve done so far:
I have two carcasses measuring 100 cm (39 inches) and two carcasses measuring 50 cm (20 inches). The 100 cm (39 inches) ones are in the middle, and the 50 cm (20 inches) ones are on the outside.
First, I screwed the 50 cm (20 inches) carcasses to the 100 cm (39 inches) carcasses. That’s when the first problem occurred. The clips that are attached from above onto the carcass and later clipped into the top running track could not be installed because the ceiling height was too low.
For everyone who bought all the cabinet parts at once: attach these clips during the carcass assembly!
For those who can’t do this and have the same issue as me, simply shorten the part of the clips that need to be threaded through the carcass a little. I shortened mine by about 3–5 mm (0.1–0.2 inches) to be able to install them.
After that, I installed the tracks on the top and bottom and installed the first glass door by sliding it sideways into the track.
Conclusion: The sliding door runs perfectly in the track and glides smoothly without scraping the ceiling, even at the lowest point in my room (238.5 cm / 94 inches).
Unfortunately, I stopped the installation here because it was late!
I will continue as follows:
1: Install the second door and slide it onto the track so that both doors hang on the two carcasses.
2: Install the other two carcasses.
3: Install the tracks and connectors.
After that, the wardrobe should be finished. So, work will continue by Easter at the latest.
Best regards,
Bruno

Postfach200028 Mar 2010 21:09Hello Bruno,
thank you very much for your interim report. We are really following your progress closely. 😳
Unfortunately, I can’t quite picture the "clipping problem." Could you perhaps take a photo of it or tell me which point in the instructions it refers to and at what stage it would be better to do it? Then I can take a look and maybe get it right from the start.
How much time have you spent on this so far? It sounds like you’ve been working non-stop all weekend?
How much room for adjustment do you have now? Was it just a matter of millimeters or is there still a centimeter or two of space?
Best regards,
Michael

Bruno_486829 Mar 2010 09:18Hello,
I worked for about 3 hours, then had to attend to other things! The cabinet will have to wait a bit longer.
Here is the installation photo regarding the clips:
https://www.hausbau-forum.de/images/70861b4142e854263ae2a0ee84c2c83e.jpg
It’s best to complete this step during the cabinet carcass assembly before installing the top panel!
If that’s no longer possible, shorten the round part that goes through the top panel!
I have about 1–1.5 cm (0.4–0.6 inches) of clearance upwards here.
Work will resume by Easter at the latest.

Many thanks to Bruno for the tip about the clip.
I would probably have faced the same problem.
Do you think it’s possible to slide the runners in first and then screw the door onto them?
Would you still be able to reach the screws afterward?
I don’t have any space beside the wardrobe to slide the door in from the side, and with a wardrobe width of 2.50 meters (8 feet 2 inches), I can’t switch to four smaller doors either (unfortunately, those aren’t available).
Regards, Monster

Bruno_48681 Apr 2010 13:50Hello Monster
I also think that will be difficult.
On one hand, the door gains its stability from these runners, and on the other hand, it will be hard to slide the door into the runners from below. Additionally, you would need to screw the door to the runners from inside the cabinet.
Not impossible, but challenging!
But I don’t understand why you can’t slide it in from the side. You do have two tracks for your cabinet, right? First, install the first track, then slide both doors in from the side, and finally mount the second track. That’s how I did it!
Or did I misunderstand something?

But I don’t understand why you can’t slide it in from the side. You also have two rails for your wardrobe, right? First, install the first rail, then slide both doors in from the side, and finally install the second rail. That’s how I did it!Thank you very much, Bruno.
I hadn’t thought of that before.
I understood from your post that you attach the rail across the entire wardrobe and then slide the doors in from the side (so you start sliding them in next to the wardrobe).
If the wardrobe, which is 2.50m (8 feet 2 inches) wide, also has a two-part rail (does anyone happen to know?), then nothing should stand in the way of a sliding door wardrobe anymore, hooray!!!
Thanks again!
