Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the assembly of a Pax wardrobe system and trying to optimize the costs as much as possible. The question I have is: Can I save money when building a Pax wardrobe without compromising on quality or functionality?

I am especially interested in tips for purchasing affordable yet suitable shelves, doors, and rails, as well as possible savings on tools or installation. Are there any recommended alternatives to the original parts from Ikea or experiences with used components? Advice on self-assembly versus professional installation would also be helpful.

Maybe there are strategies that are not immediately obvious, such as modular construction, swapping individual parts, or special discount offers. I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

AVABA, in principle there is definitely potential to save money with the Pax system, but some points should be considered.

- Original parts from Ikea are usually cheaper than third-party accessories, as they are exactly compatible and require no modifications.
- Used components can be an option as long as they are undamaged and fully functional.
- Tools such as cordless drills can often be rented inexpensively instead of purchased.

The question is always how much effort and risk you are willing to take on. For system quality, the original package is usually the most reliable choice.

To specifically answer the question "Can I save costs when assembling Pax?", I would recommend carefully analyzing the individual cost components:

- Furniture components: Original parts offer the best value for money. Third-party options may be cheaper but carry the risk of fitting issues.
- Accessories: Shelves and rails can sometimes be found cheaper as clearance items or damaged stock.
- Tools: If needed only for a short time, it is better to rent or borrow them.
- Assembly: Doing it yourself saves labor costs but requires some craftsmanship skills.

A structured plan before purchasing also helps to avoid wrong purchases and unnecessary expenses.

Hello AVABA,

Some time ago, I also assembled my Pax wardrobe and deliberately focused on saving costs. For example, I:

- bought used components from a classified ad to get the basic structure cheaper
- installed classic, simple doors instead of the expensive sliding doors
- borrowed tools from friends

Still, I was very careful about precision and load capacity, as the system depends on exact measurements. It is worth carefully checking whether used components are really in good condition.

If you are not very experienced with furniture assembly, I would recommend not skipping professional help – mistakes can be costly.

You can get Pax furniture cheaper if you choose affordable basic units and simple doors. Installing it yourself saves on labor costs.

Thanks for the tips so far. Regarding buying used components: How did you check the compatibility of the used Pax elements? Were there any issues with missing rails or other small parts?

It would also be interesting to know if modular expansions are more cost-effective in the long run, or if it’s better to invest in a larger package right from the start.
