Hello everyone,
I am currently planning my Ikea Pax wardrobe and wondering if there are doors for the Pax system that come with an integrated door opener.
By door opener, I mean a type of mechanism that allows the door to be opened simply by pressing or pulling, without the need to attach an additional handle or separate opener.
Does anyone know if Ikea offers such doors directly, or do you always have to rely on third-party or retrofit solutions? I would also be interested to know if the installation is more complex if these doors are available.
Thank you in advance for your help!

I installed them on my own Pax doors and am really impressed. The components are sturdy, have lasted two years with daily use, and still work like on day one. It’s important to be careful during installation and adjust the springs neither too tight nor too loose.
Regarding suppliers: Ikea doesn’t offer push-to-open kits themselves, but there is plenty of hardware available for furniture construction. I chose a well-known branded product and can definitely recommend it. The quality is noticeably better than cheap generic options.
If you have some patience, it’s a really cool, elegant solution for handleless designs!

Are there also differences in quality between Ikea’s own retrofit solutions and those from third-party suppliers? In addition to the previous assessment: Ikea does not offer official retrofit kits with integrated push-to-open functionality for Pax. The existing handleless doors open purely mechanically.
Third-party suppliers often specialize in such opening mechanisms and provide varying levels of quality. Customer reviews indicate that branded products with precise springs operate more reliably and last longer than very low-cost alternatives.
Therefore, when retrofitting, it is advisable to choose proven products to minimize wear and malfunctions.

The installation is usually straightforward; Ikea and other suppliers provide detailed instructions.I can confirm that. Installation takes me less than 30 minutes per door.
No major remodeling required.
In brief:
- Ikea does not offer Pax doors with built-in door openers
- Push-to-open fittings can be retrofitted
- Installation is simple and manuals are available
- Quality varies, so it is better to choose proven suppliers
This is how you achieve a handleless design with functionality.
