Are there any Ikea Pax wardrobe models or variants that are specifically offered with a particularly shallow depth?

I am looking for a wardrobe with the smallest possible depth, as my available space is quite limited, especially in terms of depth. The standard Pax models are usually around 58 cm (23 inches) deep, which is a bit too much for me. It would be important to know if there are officially offered variations with a reduced depth (e.g., around 35 cm (14 inches) or 40 cm (16 inches)), or if there are modification options or accessories (such as special interior fittings or alternative carcass sizes) that can be used to effectively reduce the depth.

I would be very grateful for shared experiences or tips on this topic!

Pax does not offer officially shallower depths than the usual carcass depth of around 58cm (23 inches).

However, Ikea provides narrow models with a width of 35cm (14 inches), but not with a shallower depth.

For shallower cabinets, you would need to consider other series or modify them yourself.

Basically, the Pax wardrobe carcasses come in two standard depths: approximately 35 cm (14 inches) and approximately 58 cm (23 inches). The smaller depth is often used for shelves and less frequently for full wardrobes.

It should be noted that the 35 cm (14 inches) deep carcass is primarily designed as a shelf or storage solution, not as a half wardrobe for hanging clothes, since the minimum depth for hangers is usually around 50 cm (20 inches) or more to avoid creasing.

Some users report that Pax carcasses can be partially modified, for example by adjusting the back panel or planning the interior fittings to make better use of the available space. However, there are no official shallower wardrobes with less depth.

I’m interested in what specific purpose you have in mind and what maximum depth you have available. Do you mainly want to store hanging clothes, or is storage for folded clothing sufficient?

Thanks, that’s a good point. My available space is about 40 to a maximum of 42 cm depth (16 to 17 inches), unfortunately no more room than that. Mainly, I want to store everyday clothes (pants, shirts, T-shirts) on hangers. Folded clothes are less critical and can be kept in dressers.

I was hoping there might be Pax options with a specially shallower depth that still allow hanging storage.

This is challenging with Pax because clothes rails and hangers usually require at least 50 cm (20 inches) of space.

One option would be to design the interior so that hangers are hung parallel to the depth, which would reduce the required depth somewhat. However, this is not intended with the standard dimensions and hinges.

Alternatively, you could use 35 cm (14 inches) deep Pax carcasses with shelves and add special external cabinets or external rail solutions for hanging clothes.

Another idea is to use Pax units with a shallower depth as a base and modify the doors or work without doors to gain a bit more room. However, this is more of a custom solution and not offered as a standard option.

There are actually no officially offered Ikea Pax models with a depth of less than 35 cm (14 inches).

If you are looking for shallow wardrobes for hanging clothes, a combination of 35 cm (14 inches) deep Pax wardrobes with external hanging rods in the room could be an option.

Alternatively, a walk-in wardrobe or open shelving systems might be better suited if the space allows it.

Ikea's clear response is that a minimum depth of around 50 cm (20 inches) is required for hangers.
