ᐅ 1960s IKEA PAX Wardrobe with Sliding Doors?

Hello!

I would like to install a Pax wardrobe with a depth of 60cm (24 inches) and sliding doors. Unfortunately, this combination is not available in the IKEA range. Can I confidently fit the sliding doors from the 66cm (26 inch) wardrobe onto the 60cm (24 inch) one?

Maybe someone has had a similar requirement already.

There is no 60cm (24 inch) or 66cm (26 inch) deep PAX.
Both are the same.
The PAX is 66cm (26 inch) deep with sliding doors and 60cm (24 inch) deep without.
Something seems to have gone wrong in the planning, as this is the usual depth for a wardrobe with sliding doors.

But this is quite frustrating now since the existing recess is only 60cm (24 inches) deep, and sliding doors are already desired. With some DIY skills, wouldn’t it be possible to shorten the cabinet carcass by 6cm (2.4 inches)?

With some craftsmanship and the necessary tools, this is possible. But have you also considered that the rear row of holes will be missing, all shelves will need to be shortened, and drawers, etc., will no longer be usable?

The effort would be acceptable, as long as the functionality does not suffer too much. Drawers are not used, so no problem.

Yes, the holes will then be gone. And if you want to put a clothes rail inside, it might be tight for the clothes in some cases. Measure how wide a jacket or similar item is on the hanger. An undamaged PAX frame is 58 cm (23 inches) deep on the outside.
