Hello everyone, I recently bought a Pax wardrobe from IKEA and am currently facing the challenge of installing the sliding doors correctly. Although the instructions are included, I find some parts a bit unclear, especially regarding the alignment of the upper and lower sliding rails and how to hang the doors themselves. I’m also wondering what the best approach is to ensure the doors slide smoothly and evenly, as well as which tools would be ideal to use. Has anyone had experience with this and could provide a step-by-step guide or tips to help me install the sliding doors properly and without issues?

Properly align the top and bottom running rails; this is the most important step. First, attach the top rail, then hang the doors, and finally install the bottom rail. Tools needed: screwdriver, spirit level, and ideally also pliers. This will help prevent any wobbling.

Hello Iainlo, your questions about installing the PAX sliding door are very valid, as this step often presents the biggest challenge. First, it is important to check all the parts and organize them according to the assembly instructions. The top track is usually mounted either on the ceiling or on the cabinet frame. Make sure it is perfectly level so the doors do not stick. Once the doors are hung, you can adjust the height and lateral play using the adjustment screws at the bottom. The basic tools you will need are a Phillips screwdriver, possibly a cordless drill with a low speed setting, and a spirit level. Here is a rough overview of the process: - Attach the upper rollers to the door - Install the top track - Hang the door - Secure the bottom track - Adjust until the doors slide smoothly and without play. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

What helped me was to first install the upper track completely and check if it is perfectly straight. Then hang the doors one at a time – not both simultaneously. After that, measure the bottom track precisely and install it. This way, you can avoid major alignment issues.

To be honest, the installation of the PAX sliding door is often overcomplicated. The instructions are actually sufficient, but many tend to make a mountain out of a molehill. The most important thing is to mount the top rail perfectly straight and ensure the doors slide smoothly and effortlessly. Everything else is just fine-tuning that will naturally fall into place if you have basic handyman skills. A tip: if you’re nervous about installing it yourself, it’s better to get professional help instead of struggling endlessly.

I would like to break this down more precisely:
- First, check the measurements and alignment of the cabinet bodies using a spirit level and tape measure.
- The top rail is attached to the upper edge of the PAX carcass; pre-drilling prevents wood splitting.
- The sliding door is equipped with lower rollers and upper running wheels that fit into the rails.
- Adjust the doors after hanging them: the rear screws on the lower rollers allow height adjustment, while the front screws control the lateral spacing.
- Finally, check that the doors slide smoothly without resistance. This sequence is important for precise installation.

Tools you should have ready: cordless screwdriver, Phillips head bit, spirit level, and hammer. The quality of execution determines the durability of the doors.
