Hello everyone, a few months ago I got some Ikea Platsa drawers and overall I am quite satisfied with the flexibility and design. However, I am currently looking for effective yet gentle ways to clean these drawers without damaging the surfaces or affecting the drawer slides’ mechanics. In particular, I am interested in which cleaning agents and techniques work best for removing dirt such as dust, fingerprints, grease stains, or small marks on the fronts and inside surfaces. Does anyone have practical tips that have proven useful in everyday use? Thanks in advance!

I recommend simply using warm water with a little dish soap. Wipe with a soft cloth and then polish with a dry cloth. This way, you protect the surface and avoid damaging the frame.

To clean the Ikea PLATSA drawers effectively and gently, you can follow these steps:

- Remove the drawers completely from the carcass, which makes cleaning much easier.
- Use lukewarm water with a mild dish soap or a specialized wood/plastic cleaner, depending on the material.
- For the fronts and inner surfaces, use a soft microfiber cloth—avoid abrasive sponges to prevent scratches.
- For the runners: it’s best to wipe them dry to avoid moisture getting into the mechanism.
- For stubborn stains, apply a small amount of baking soda paste (baking soda mixed with water) carefully and wipe off after a short period.
- Dry all parts thoroughly before putting the drawer back in.

I completely agree with you, kinsin – those PLATSA units are really practical, but you also want to keep them clean without damaging them! 😉 My tip: a splash of vinegar in the water works wonders against grease without attacking the surfaces aggressively. Just wipe with a soft cloth and let it dry thoroughly. By the way, if I ever have some dirt in the corners, I like to use an old toothbrush or makeup brush for cleaning. This way, you can easily reach the small gaps without scrubbing harshly.

I would avoid using strong cleaners. Warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft cloth work best for me. Clean mechanical parts only when dry; otherwise, they might rust.

It is important to keep the drawer mechanism away from moisture to prevent corrosion or malfunctions. For cleaning surfaces, use neutral pH cleaners that do not contain solvents. Microfiber cloths are ideal because they clean effectively and help avoid scratches. When cleaning plastic fronts, avoid abrasive or alkaline products as they can damage the surface. Regular, gentle cleaning is better than infrequent intensive cleaning. Occasionally remove dirt particles from the sliding rails with a dry, lint-free cloth and then apply a light lubricant (e.g., silicone spray) – this helps maintain long-term functionality.
