Hello everyone, a few months ago I got some Ikea Platsa drawers and overall I am quite satisfied with the flexibility and design. However, I am currently looking for effective yet gentle ways to clean these drawers without damaging the surfaces or affecting the drawer slides’ mechanics. In particular, I am interested in which cleaning agents and techniques work best for removing dirt such as dust, fingerprints, grease stains, or small marks on the fronts and inside surfaces. Does anyone have practical tips that have proven useful in everyday use? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the advice, I wasn’t aware of that. Can you say something about the recommended cleaning products? I read in the Ikea manual that certain cleaners like ammonia should be avoided, but there isn’t a clear recommendation. What do you use yourself on the plastic surfaces of the Platsa drawers to keep them from becoming dull or discolored?

I know the feeling of struggling to find the right products without damaging the surfaces. I usually use a homemade mixture of 1 part white vinegar and 3 parts water in a spray bottle. I use this to wipe down drawer fronts; it’s gentle but still effective against limescale marks or light dirt. Afterwards, wipe again with a damp, clean cloth to neutralize the smell. In my experience, it’s much gentler than harsh cleaners, and you can really tell it protects the surface. One small tip: if something sticky is stuck on, let it soak briefly with the damp cloth first, then it comes off more easily.

Important: Do not use abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals. The PLATSA material is usually laminated or coated, and aggressive substances can damage the surface. It is best to always clean with a soft cloth and lukewarm water.

Thank you all for the helpful tips! To summarize, I am now planning the following approach for the sensitive Ikea PLATSA drawers:

- Ideally remove the drawers for cleaning to reach corners thoroughly
- Clean surfaces only with warm water, mild dish soap, or diluted vinegar
- Use microfiber cloths, no abrasive sponges
- Keep the drawer runners dry, only occasionally treat lightly with silicone spray
- Avoid aggressive or alkaline cleaning products to protect the laminate/paint finish

If anyone has additional advice or long-term experience with how the PLATSA surfaces hold up with frequent cleaning, I would greatly appreciate it!
