Good morning everyone,

I am currently looking into the IKEA Platsa cabinet system and seeking information about the drawer slides. Specifically, my question is: Are there versions of IKEA Platsa that come standard with soft-closing drawer slides? Or do all available models come with basic drawer slides without integrated damping? I would like to know if I need to specifically look for a variant with soft-close technology when purchasing, or if this feature is generally not offered with Platsa.

I would appreciate any helpful tips, personal experiences, or information about compatible retrofit options.

For clarification: IKEA offers several types of drawers in the Platsa system, but to my knowledge, the standard drawer slides do not include integrated soft-close mechanisms.

The question of whether a "soft" drawer slide is actually available as a standard option can be answered by checking if there are official product versions with soft-close. So far, I am not aware of any such versions from IKEA.

Therefore, I would doubt that IKEA offers a special Platsa variant with soft-close functionality. This feature is generally uncommon at lower price points.

No, Platsa does not have soft-close drawer runners from IKEA itself.

However, you can retrofit dampened drawer slides from third-party suppliers.

Very interesting question!

To answer it thoroughly, it is important to distinguish between the different types of drawers in the Platsa system. IKEA generally uses simple metal slides without integrated soft-close mechanisms for Platsa.

Most drawers come with roller guides or side metal slides that only allow smooth gliding. They do not have any damping.

If you want a soft-close function, there are two options:
- Retrofitting dampers or soft-close slides that must specifically fit these drawers. It is important to pay close attention to the dimensions and mounting points since not all slides are compatible.
- Alternatively, IKEA offers other series, such as the BESTÅ system, which do include drawers with integrated soft-close slides.

I also wonder whether you need the Platsa drawers for regular household use or if they will be subjected to special stresses? This would be important to know to better assess the effort of retrofitting and its benefits.

Thank you for the responses so far!

This is already very helpful. I am using Platsa for storage in a walk-in closet, where the drawers are frequently used. Soft-close functionality would really be desirable here to reduce noise and increase durability.

My focus is therefore on whether I can specifically choose a version of Platsa with soft-close when purchasing, or if I should plan for the additional effort of retrofitting from the start.

If retrofitting is necessary, does anyone know of a suitable plug-and-play solution, or does it always require extensive modifications?

In summary: To the best of my knowledge, IKEA’s Platsa lineup does not include drawers with factory-installed soft-close dampers. This applies both to the drawer dimensions and designs, as well as the corresponding runners.

Soft-close drawer runners are mainly offered in other IKEA product lines such as BESTÅ or METOD.

Regarding retrofitting, it should be noted that standard soft-close runners usually do not fit Platsa drawers without modifications, as the mounting points and widths vary significantly.

Therefore, the following points are important:
- Check for precise compatibility
- Drilling or modifications may be necessary
- Test the quality and durability of the damping mechanism

Some customers report DIY solutions with externally attached soft-close mechanisms that slow down the drawer. However, this is more of a makeshift fix and not ideal for long-term use.
