Hello everyone,

I’m currently reorganizing my Ikea Platsa drawers and was wondering if anyone here in the forum might have tips or proven methods for sorting these specific drawers.
I’ve already considered using small boxes and dividers, but I’ve noticed that the different-sized compartments and drawer profiles of the PLATSA system are quite flexible, yet also present some challenges for structured storage.
Are there efficient sorting concepts, recommendations for suitable organizers, or practical strategies that optimize storage space while keeping things orderly, visible, and easily accessible?
I welcome any ideas, including concrete experience-based tips or advice on common mistakes to avoid when sorting.

Hello Tarken,

I can give you some tips that have worked well for me with PLATSA.

First: Use dividers and small boxes that fit precisely inside the drawers. Ikea offers some suitable inserts, but other brands also work well with the PLATSA dimensions.

It’s important to develop a plan before organizing:
- Carefully consider which items you want to store in each drawer.
- Measure the drawers accurately so that dividers don’t get stuck or wobble.

A common mistake is overfilling the drawers or not creating a clear system for items used every day. This leads to clutter.

Summary:
- Use boxes or organizers that match the drawer depth
- Create categories (e.g., cutlery, tools, craft materials)
- Use additional partitions for larger drawers

This way everything stays organized and easily accessible.

I would like to add that with PLATSA, the flexibility can also be a challenge, especially if you often rearrange things.

My advice is to organize not only by category but also by frequency of use. Items you need daily should be placed at the front and within easy reach, while rarely used items can be stored at the back or in lower sections.

Additionally, I recommend not overloading the drawers. Although the PLATSA mechanism can handle quite a bit, excessively heavy or overloaded drawers can eventually affect the sliding system.

Furthermore, sturdy dividers that are not only flexible but also stay in place despite frequent opening can be very helpful.

To optimize the PLATSA drawers, I recommend planning with modular organizer inserts.

The following points have proven effective in tests:
- Adjust the standard dimensions of the inserts to fit PLATSA. These are often around 15–20 cm (6–8 inches) in width.
- Use acrylic or plastic boxes: easy to clean and durable.
- Labeling the boxes or sections greatly improves organization, especially for extensive storage.

Additionally, pay attention to the weight: PLATSA is designed for light to medium-weight storage. For heavy items, a different solution is advisable.

Conclusion: The best organization is achieved by combining custom-fit inserts, clear categorization, and consideration of weight limits.

Simply use small boxes or inserts from the accessories.

Separate items by frequency of use: common items at the front, infrequent ones at the back.

Do not overfill drawers to prevent jamming.

I recommend using dividers of varying heights. This way, both tall and flat items fit better.

Additionally, transparent boxes provide an overview without needing to open the drawer.
