ᐅ Are there versions of IKEA Platsa with soft-close drawer slides?

Good morning everyone,

I am currently looking into the IKEA Platsa cabinet system and seeking information about the drawer slides. Specifically, my question is: Are there versions of IKEA Platsa that come standard with soft-closing drawer slides? Or do all available models come with basic drawer slides without integrated damping? I would like to know if I need to specifically look for a variant with soft-close technology when purchasing, or if this feature is generally not offered with Platsa.

I would appreciate any helpful tips, personal experiences, or information about compatible retrofit options.

I fitted my Platsa drawers myself with soft-close runners from a third-party supplier. It was definitely worth it!

It really makes a noticeable difference, and everything operates much more smoothly. Although the retrofit was quite involved, the effort paid off!

So: yes, there are no IKEA soft-close options for Platsa, but with a bit of effort, you can easily get it! Good luck!

That sounds nice, but how exactly did you verify compatibility?

I find it problematic to replace drawer runners without knowing the load limits and fixing points. Such modifications should always be carefully planned; otherwise, there is a risk of material damage or functional limitations.

Could you please describe in more detail which manufacturer or type you used and what modifications were necessary?

Sure! I purchased soft-close slides from a well-known manufacturer of furniture fittings. The slides were slightly narrower than the original Platsa slides, so I had to adjust the drilling holes slightly.

The material is metal with good damping and easy to install. You need a cordless drill and some basic DIY skills.

Additionally, I installed small spacers inside the drawer base to firmly secure the guide.

All in all, it's not complicated, but definitely not just plug-and-play.

Just to add: If you don’t want to modify the furniture, Platsa drawers come without soft-close.

IKEA does offer retrofit kits for soft-close, but usually not for Platsa, only for METOD or BESTÅ.

The simplest solution is actually to retrofit third-party soft-close mechanisms – but be careful to ensure the dimensions are correct.

Thanks to everyone for the detailed explanations!

Let me try to summarize:
- IKEA sells Platsa by default only with basic drawer slides without soft-close.
- There is no official IKEA version of Platsa with soft-close slides.
- Retrofits are possible but usually require some modifications.
- Other IKEA systems (BESTÅ, METOD) sometimes come with soft-close as standard.

My next challenge will be to find suitable retrofit options that fit the Platsa dimensions. If anyone has recommendations for manufacturers, that would be helpful.

One more question: Are there any experiences regarding the durability of such retrofitted soft-close slides under daily use?

The wear and tear greatly depends on the quality of the retrofit kit. Cheap dampers can quickly lose their tension or break, especially if they are not installed precisely.

High-quality branded products often offer a lifespan of several years with normal use. Proper installation and ensuring the slides are not overloaded are important.

The mechanical stress on wardrobe drawer slides is generally moderate, which is advantageous. However, I still recommend devices that come with a warranty and positive customer reviews.
