ᐅ IKEA Metod: How can I make drawers quieter?

Hello everyone,

I recently designed a kitchen using the Ikea Metod system. The drawers generally work well, but I’ve noticed that they are quite noisy when opening and closing. Especially in the morning, when you want to use them quietly, this can be really annoying.

I’m wondering what effective measures can be taken to make the Metod system drawers quieter. Are there specific dampers or other tricks to reduce the noise when closing or sliding the drawers?

I’m interested in both DIY solutions and recommendations for compatible accessories or products.

Maybe someone has experience with the Metod system or knows good alternatives for soundproofing these drawers.

Thank you in advance!

The soft-close fittings from Ikea are called AMT201 or something similar.

Installation is straightforward, and instructions are included. You only need to attach the new fittings to the back of the drawer sides.

There are versions for different drawer frame heights, so it’s best to check the exact specifications either in-store or on Ikea’s website.

If you don’t want to make any modifications, you can also place small felt or rubber pads in the corners of the drawers.

This cushions the impact when closing and reduces noise with minimal effort or cost.

The Metod drawers are generally quite sturdy, but the clicking noise when closing can be annoying.

I always go for a combination: easy maintenance, retrofit soft-close dampers, AND if it’s still too loud, soft buffers.

Some even use silicone spray on moving parts, which makes everything run much smoother.

Just try out what works best for you – sometimes a small adjustment is all it takes to make everyday kitchen use more comfortable.

Thank you for the feedback so far!

I would like to know more precisely whether the soft-close fittings from Ikea require completely replacing the existing drawer slides, or if the dampers can simply be added to the current rails.

I prefer not to discard all the rails if the dampers are just attached at the back.

I’m also interested in whether the smoothness of the slide itself is affected by these dampers, or if the noise reduction is solely due to the gentler closing action.

Soft-close dampers can usually be retrofitted to existing Metod runners without replacing the entire runner.

They mainly provide dampened closing; the smoothness of opening remains the same or improves slightly.

I did it by keeping the drawer slides and simply attaching the soft-close dampers at the back.

The drawers slide just as smoothly as before, but the loud bang when closing is eliminated.
