Hello everyone,

I am considering buying a new shelving system from IKEA, and the Platsa system caught my attention. However, I haven’t been able to find out whether Platsa furniture offers drawers with a soft-close function.

I am interested in knowing if it is possible to get drawers with a gentle closing mechanism, i.e. soft-close, in the Platsa range, or if this feature is only available in other IKEA systems. Maybe someone has experience with Platsa or is very familiar with the current product range.

I would appreciate concrete answers, including information on availability or suitable alternatives. Thanks in advance!

In short: Platsa does not offer drawers with soft-close functionality. The drawer slides are sturdy but basic models without damping.

I recently looked for products at IKEA: Soft-close systems are mainly designed for METOD kitchens and BESTÅ cabinets. Retrofitting soft-close on PLATSA is technically possible but requires precise work.

My advice: If you want soft-close, plan your furniture project with a series that supports it directly, or be prepared to spend time on retrofitting.

Thank you for the helpful contributions so far.

I’ll summarize again to make sure I’ve understood everything correctly:

- PLATSA drawers do not come with a soft-close feature by default.
- However, there are retrofit options, such as soft-close dampers, that may be compatible.
- IKEA itself tends to offer these dampers mainly for other product lines.

Do you have any recommendations for retrofit products or third-party suppliers that have proven particularly reliable? How complex is the installation, and what tools are required?

I would appreciate any practical tips.

Retrofitting soft-close dampers to PLATSA is generally feasible but requires some DIY skills and a certain level of precision.

Please note the following:
- The soft-close dampers must be compatible with the drawer slides; otherwise, the sliding mechanism may not work properly.
- Additional tools are usually needed, such as a cordless drill, possibly a drill bit, and screwdrivers.
- Installation involves attaching the dampers to the inside of the drawer and the cabinet frame.

Many users recommend dampers from IKEA for METOD or from established manufacturers like Blum, which can be adapted for PLATSA. With some patience, the installation is doable even for beginners, but be sure to check all dimensions and conditions beforehand.

Correct, soft-close is not available factory-installed in PLATSA.

For me, switching to BESTÅ or METOD would make more sense if soft-close is a priority. Investing in retrofit parts is often more expensive and time-consuming than choosing a series with soft-close from the start.

To conclude, here is a brief summary:

This reflects the current situation.

I recommend carefully considering whether retrofitting makes sense both financially and in terms of effort. Soft-close is often not included in IKEA’s budget-friendly furniture ranges. Those who value this feature are better off choosing specific series designed for it.

Thanks to everyone for the constructive contributions.
