Hello everyone, I am currently working on a room layout using IKEA Platsa and have noticed that there are different shapes and sizes available for the PLATSA cabinets. Since I would like to have a flexible overview: What types of IKEA PLATSA cabinets are there exactly? Specifically, what basic shapes, widths, heights, and depths does the PLATSA system offer, and how do the models differ in terms of door, drawer, and interior organization options? I would appreciate as much detailed information as possible, including tips on how to best combine them.

PLATSA is mainly available in different cabinet sizes: 40, 60, and 80 cm (16, 24, and 31.5 inches) wide. The heights are usually 35, 64, 80, and 128 cm (14, 25, 31.5, and 50 inches), with depths of 30 or 50 cm (12 and 20 inches). Doors, drawers, and shelves can be combined flexibly. Basic forms include open shelving units or closed cabinets.

The PLATSA series is modular and offers three standard widths: 40 cm (16 inches), 60 cm (24 inches), and 80 cm (31 inches). Depth options are 30 cm (12 inches) and 50 cm (20 inches). Height variations range from a shallow 35 cm (14 inches) up to tall 128 cm (50 inches) modules. There are open cabinet units, closed units with doors, as well as those with drawer fronts. The doors come in various designs, such as flat or framed styles. For interior fittings, a variety of shelves, clothes rails, and drawers are available to customize the storage space.

I completely understand that you’re looking for an overview, Felote, because PLATSA is very flexible but can be a bit confusing at first. In my experience, the narrow 40 cm (16 inches) cabinets are great for small niches, while the larger 80 cm (31.5 inches) units offer more storage space for clothing. What helped me was customizing the combination of doors and drawers to suit my needs – especially drawers, which are perfect for keeping messy socks and small items organized. There is also the option to create corner solutions with PLATSA, which provides additional space.

PLATSA is brilliant! Especially because you can combine so many different widths and heights! For example, I have a combination of 40cm (16 inches) and 80cm (31 inches) modules in my apartment. I find the 50cm (20 inches) depth particularly practical because it can hold a lot. There are also great storage options like baskets and special inner drawers that help keep everything very organized. Just give it a try, it’s fun!

I find it interesting that the variety in PLATSA is really large, but I wonder whether these options actually provide greater flexibility or rather lead to more complexity. There are several widths and depths available, but creating longer surfaces or larger wall areas without visible seams is more difficult. Has anyone else had practical experience with whether the range of shapes is more useful or confusing in everyday use?
