Hello everyone, I am planning a move soon and have several IKEA Platsa furniture pieces that I want to transport disassembled. My question is: How can I most effectively prevent damage to the Platsa elements—especially to the edges and connection points—during transport? I am particularly interested in tips on packaging materials, handling during disassembly and reassembly, and general precautions to avoid scratches, deformation, or breaks. Maybe you have experience with the typical weak points of the Platsa series or know tricks for safely transporting these shelves? Thanks in advance for your help!
A cordless screwdriver with torque control is ideal for preventing over-tightening of screws. Also, use a bit set with well-fitting bits, as damaged screw heads make assembly more difficult. For hard-to-reach areas, an angled attachment can be helpful. When disassembling, a systematic approach and careful handling are essential.

This reduces potential risks such as incorrect assembly or damage during disassembly. Instead, the focus should be on optimizing packaging and cushioning. Does anyone have experience with this? For Platsa, I am concerned that frequent disassembly may weaken the stability.
Depending on the situation, large components can be carried by two people to transport them without disassembly. Where this is not possible, edge protectors and ceilings are essential. I also always collect all screws in labeled bags. This helps to avoid stress during reassembly.

I do wonder, though, if it might be better not to fully disassemble the furniture, but only to the extent necessary to make it transportable.Interesting thought! In my case, some Platsa modules are quite large and bulky, so I figured disassembly would be unavoidable. Are there typical dimensions or practical guidelines indicating when you should take furniture apart? Maybe someone can share some real-life experience?
The crucial factors are usually the passageway and the vehicle. Platsa modules are often about 40–60 cm deep (15.7–23.6 inches), which sometimes just fits past doors, depending on the frame. If a large module is wider than about 80 cm (31.5 inches), I recommend disassembling it. Otherwise, you might easily bump into corners and damage the laminate surface. Additionally, the weight increases pressure during transport – disassembled parts are easier to handle. Important: The parts should be disassembled in a way that sensitive outer surfaces either touch each other or are well protected. For transport, you should also follow orientation recommendations: store upright and secure with padding.
