Hello User,

what do you think about sliding doors? I imagine they could save a lot of space. Or is that mistaken? What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks for your opinion

We are still looking for an ideal solution for our 2.01 m (6 ft 7 in) wall opening. Unfortunately, the wall reveals on both sides are only 60 cm (24 inches) wide, so a standard sliding door is not an option.

We are therefore considering a high-quality folding door or bi-fold door. This door connects the living room to the dining area with an open kitchen and is intended to remain mostly closed.

Does anyone have a good idea?

How about a multi-panel sliding door?

So, two panels on each side?

A drywall partition does not have to be made of gypsum board. You can use more durable materials.

Maybe reconsider the wall stub and instead of having a stub on one side, install a partition wall.

that still results in only 1.20 m (3.9 feet) width (the opening is 2.01 m (6.6 feet)) and one side would be an exterior wall or the chimney side, both of which look awkward to me.
But we will probably go for a 4-panel (sliding) folding door; if necessary, we’ll initially hang a carpet there.
The carpet, however, needs to look so awful that we will remove this temporary solution fairly quickly.

We probably don’t know your house design? So it’s hard to judge what would be better: if you’re planning 60 cm (24 inches) somewhere, why would a 160 cm (63 inches) long wall look worse? For example, a chimney usually looks better in front of a calm wall or corner than in front of a 60 cm (24 inches) stub. And better than a folding door. But of course, it all comes down to personal taste.
I also like Dirk’s idea.
