Hello everyone, I have a Pax wardrobe sliding door at home that keeps sticking. The door no longer slides smoothly but catches and gets stuck in certain spots. I have already checked for dirt or foreign objects in the track but didn’t find anything unusual. The tracks don’t appear to be bent either, but the mechanism overall feels a bit stiff. My question is: What exactly can I do to fix the sliding door from sticking? Are there simple repair steps or specific maintenance tips I should follow? It would also be helpful to know whether this problem is caused by general wear or if a component might be defective. I appreciate any advice!

Also check the rollers at the bottom of the door; if they are broken or worn out, replacement is necessary.

Thanks for the tip, I haven’t checked the bottom of the door closely yet. However, I’m wondering if the rollers on the Pax sliding door can be easily removed or if special tools are needed. Does anyone know how the rollers are actually taken out in practice? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of before I start?

The rollers on Pax sliding doors can mostly be removed with some patience and a screwdriver; special tools are usually not necessary. It is important to remove the door safely — often the screws on the sides need to be loosened and the door carefully lifted out of the track. After that, the rollers can usually be replaced using an Allen key or screwdriver. Make sure to install the new roller exactly according to the manufacturer’s instructions to avoid it getting stuck again.

Cleaning, lubricating, and replacing rollers are the three most important steps. If your door is very difficult to operate, also check the adjustment of the running height. Sometimes the door leaf is set too low or too high, which causes it to catch.

IKEA products are generally of lower quality, so you shouldn’t expect much more.

That’s a bit too general. The price of Pax is in the mid-range segment, and the doors are quite common. Normal wear and regular maintenance are crucial here. A common mistake is underestimating the complex mechanism of a sliding door. Often, snagging occurs due to incorrect adjustment or foreign objects.

Check whether the door is installed plumb and level, as slight misalignments can significantly affect the operation.

That is often the main reason why doors don’t operate properly anymore. I recommend precise alignment as the first step before replacing any parts.

To summarize: The main causes of the Pax sliding door frequently sticking are usually dirt buildup, misalignment, worn rollers, or bent tracks. If you inspect, clean, and maintain the mechanical assembly along with all its components, you will most likely find a core solution. Replacement parts are available directly from IKEA or other retailers; please ensure they are original to guarantee proper fit. If the door continues to stick despite maintenance, I would check whether the issue is due to overloading with heavy contents or incorrect handling.

I’m wondering if the rollers on the Pax sliding door are easy to remove or if you need special tools for that.

To remove them, you basically only need a Phillips or flathead screwdriver, depending on the type of screws. The doors are heavy, but with two people it works well. Unscrew the roller, insert the new one, done.
