ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,

Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?

Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

Then, if you want, from DMAX. You know what I mean.

Hello,

several people have already shared their prices for installing a satellite system here. I would like to revisit this topic. The general contractor’s electrician sent me a preliminary quote for a Wisi system for 6 participants with a multiswitch and surge protection for a total of €880. I find that quite expensive. TV outlets with the satellite cabling are included. I looked into it and a decent satellite dish plus LNB in a weatherproof housing costs under €200. Four participants are more than enough, so a multiswitch is not necessary. Besides mounting these two components, there isn’t much more to do, right? At most, the dish would be mounted on a bracket on the facade, that’s my current thought, or if technically possible, the bracket could be attached to the side of the soffit with the cables fed through the soffit directly into the interior. Maybe someone here has their dish attached to the soffit, or has other ideas on this?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I cannot provide any information on the technical questions.
Last year, we paid a total of 866 € gross for the same service (dish with 6 connections).

I think 4 connections are very limited. In the living room, there should be at least two connections, plus one connection each in the children’s rooms and possibly in the bedroom / office / guest room.
With only 4 connections, you really won’t get very far.

What is the purpose of having two connections on one device? Or do you mean because of the option to switch between them?

To record something while watching something else at the same time

Ok, that’s a matter of belief... I just wonder, what on earth would anyone want to record?
