Hello everyone,

In a house built in 1992, there are the connections shown in the picture. Can someone tell me what kind of connections these are? I guessed they might be LAN. The cable fits, but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks and best regards, Ash

That is a LAN socket, absolutely correct. What have you tested so far? What was connected to the socket before?

Since there are only 4 wires at the bottom for 2 connections, it could also be an RJ45 cable used just for telephone wiring. What is on the other end, in other words, where does the outlet wiring lead to?
(I hope I’m not embarrassing myself right now )

You can see that only the middle 4 contacts are present. This corresponds to the RJ45 in ISDN telephony (S0) configuration. You can remove it; it’s no longer useful today. ISDN functionality is now typically provided through the router together with analog phones.

Well, with some luck, everything is laid inside a conduit and you can pull a LAN cable through it. So don’t just tear everything out and seal it off without careful consideration.

Hi, thanks for the answers. Okay, I think it’s RJ45/ISDN and doesn’t serve any purpose anymore. I already connected a router, but as I mentioned, there was no internet coming from the other outlets. That’s why I thought it might be a very modern ISDN system from the 1990s. So far, I have found three outlets in the house. I believe they are connected for the (now outdated) phone system. Well, I’ll just leave the outlets as they are then.
