ᐅ Is a Satellite System Still Necessary for New Builds, or Is IPTV Sufficient?

Hello everyone,
Please forgive me if I haven’t searched through hundreds of pages. My basic question is whether you still consider a satellite dish necessary or if you would just skip it altogether. About our profile: When we watch TV, it’s exclusively public broadcasting channels and no private channels. However, mostly we watch on-demand content like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and so on. In this context, we’re really starting to doubt whether we can save ourselves the 850 EUR gross. What do you think? Should we just stream the public broadcasting channels via Apple TV, or is it still better to have a satellite dish installed?
Thanks & good luck, Commanderchen

Ok, that’s a matter of personal belief... I just wonder, what on earth would you want to record? What on earth would you want to watch to justify running extra cables through the house and installing outlets that serve no other purpose, plus mounting an ugly metal dish prominently on the roof? And then pay hundreds of euros for it?
That’s crazy.
For example, if there is an interesting documentary or an older series airing somewhere that you cannot stream but want to save locally to watch repeatedly, you record it and watch something else at the same time. I admit that in times of Netflix and similar services, this situation probably does not occur very often, but it does happen occasionally.

You record it and watch something else at the same time. That doesn’t happen here. All (quality) documentaries are available on public broadcasters' media libraries. The same goes for Babylon Berlin or other public broadcaster series. Private channels are no longer necessary. The advertising is unbearable. We even watch the evening news on the media library because we never turn on the TV exactly at broadcast time.
As a heavy user, I can clearly say that a satellite system is a relic of the last century. Only one scenario comes to mind where satellite TV is indispensable: if you have to live in rural areas in Germany without access to high-speed internet.

Complete nonsense, but anyone who still watches Tagesschau nowadays is probably out of touch anyway.
Where exactly do you watch dmax, ZDF neo, arte, etc.? As far as I know, they are only free with satellite.

Just a little joke. I probably expressed it too harshly. But I don’t see any use case for satellite TV except when internet reception is poor. It’s also because I generally don’t watch linear TV except for sports. And the latter is all streamed anyway.
