Bought a house, estimated the renovation budget plus 10-15% for inevitable extras, and we set aside 5000 EUR for the kitchen!!!!
That’s how it started... at first, I was in a bit of shock, but we still had time. First step: remove all the walls for a new layout—I need space...
Let’s start with the (according to the agent) move-in ready property. The small kitchen, just under 8 square meters (about 86 square feet), had its 1970s pass-through removed. The wall including the kitchen door is gone! The wall next to the cellar stairs is gone too! Actually, the entire slanted wall, nearly 7 meters (23 feet) high, removed completely...
The window had to go as well since we needed a different working height than the standard 90 cm (35 inches). New screed installed, we switched to underfloor heating, all electrical wiring and water pipes are new.
After almost six months, the realization slowly sank in: the kitchen budget will not exceed 5000 EUR, so we had to look for a used kitchen... something special, but very cheap.
The search criteria: within a 100 km (62 miles) radius, up to 1000 EUR, because I still want new appliances.

Wow, this place is really cool. Disputes over a few bottles— I can live with that, even if it means assumptions about alcohol problems, family breakdowns, and so on. All nonsense. But what really hits me hard is the Smooty Maker bashing!! We love this device!! Does that make us antisocial?

My comparison to teenagers showing off their liquor bottles has nothing to do with being "boring as an adult." It’s about showing off. Teens display the bottles so guests can see them. I can party hard, I can drink, I’m cool. That’s the message. Does that make you boring as an adult if you stop doing that at 20? I don’t think so.That somehow misses the point. Teens don’t put bottles on display that they buy just to drink. Friday afternoon shopping is done for the weekend. End of story. There’s no message behind it.
Our bottles are honestly on a cabinet because the liqueur bottles given as Christmas presents are quite tall and don’t fit in any cupboard without wasting storage space. Then you have three of those, plus the port wine used for cooking. So why move the two gin bottles somewhere else? They’re not that ugly.
We should question these display cabinets where the “nice dinnerware” just sits unused. Or the whole colorful collection of coffee mugs some people hoard in their cupboards... no wonder the breakfast table looks like a marketplace.
Taste varies, and everyone has different priorities in life that they love and take care of.

Phew, all this moralizing in German forums... this emphasis on correctness, political or otherwise... what business is it of Mr. Perth and a.m. how Mrs. Haydee stores her whiskey, and even worse, whether she is allowed to have it at all, or if she should already be in a rehab clinic! And then dismissive comments like DDR style and so on... narrow-mindedness and hypocrisy times ten.
Haydee – keep it up. K. Why do you constantly want to dictate what others can say and what they cannot? One person is allowed to write that they enjoy showing off their expensive alcohol, but the other is not allowed to say they don’t like that? And you get to decide that?
Alcohol is a drug that is socially accepted. This strong social acceptance is alcohol’s biggest problem. I personally would not display alcohol proudly, just as I wouldn’t put a bong in a display cabinet. What for? This is not moralizing, but a matter of personal attitude. However, I do not deny anyone their own attitude. Everyone can handle it as they like. But I actually know few, if any, people who openly display their indulgences. Whatever the reason, most of them consume anyway.

@berny Uh, that doesn’t really matter anymore.
No, initially, what makes this different from a regular blender or hand blender?A smoothie blender comes with special bottles that you can use immediately or seal with a suitable to-go lid. It’s quite convenient but not necessary for someone who doesn’t make smoothies regularly.
