Hello everyone,
we are in the process of building a single-family house with a basement suitable for living. This is the design we have come up with. I would like to hear from you if you see any possibilities for improvements.
On the ground floor, there is a side entrance door on the right. The carport will be located there.
In the basement living area, the children's rooms face south. From there, it should be possible to access the terrace and the garden.
I look forward to your tips and suggestions!

A rooftop terrace can be very nice if done right!A rooftop terrace is great if you can use and maintain it regularly within your living space... if it is truly part of your daily life. But in this case, it isn’t. Here, the outdoor access to the patio/garden is more convenient. So during the first year, you might make an effort to use it occasionally for a drink, but most likely, you won’t after that because of the barrier posed by the stairs. Watering the plants will become a chore, not an enjoyable task.
If the rooftop terrace can only be accessed from the children’s bedrooms, it effectively becomes an off-limits area for adults. If it is accessible through common areas for everyone, then hosting gatherings with friends is out of the question because the children will need their own private and quiet space.
Other options? Don’t plan a rooftop terrace at all. At least not for the adults... for the children, it could be an extended play area, provided they are old enough. Otherwise, it will just turn into a smoking corner.

Not planning a roof terrace? The space is there, I can’t just make it disappear!
Last night I thought, if those rooms were swapped, putting the bathroom towards the terrace, then later on you could build an outdoor sauna on a small part of the area and create a sort of wellness zone there... So much for that idea!
A rooftop terrace really only makes sense for a penthouse in multi-family buildings. Otherwise, it is as Yvonne says. I also don’t see a sauna being practical because of the single-story layout.
If it were mine, I would plan an L-shaped bungalow with a gable roof. Above the living room (west side), I would open up to the roof, and the south side would be for the children.
