Hello everyone, I am currently about to assemble an Ikea Besta system and would like to know which tools really help to make the assembly as quick and neat as possible. I am not only interested in the standard tools that come with it but also in any additional helpful tools or tricks that could make the process more efficient. It is especially important to me that the tools are easy to handle and prevent damage to the materials, meaning no unnecessary scratches or bent parts. Maybe someone has experience or can recommend which tools were particularly useful from their own practice, such as cordless drills with specific bits, special screwdrivers, clamps, or similar. Tips on preparation or organization during assembly are also welcome. Thanks in advance for your help!

The question of effective tools for assembling Ikea Besta is very relevant because many mistakes can be avoided here. I definitely recommend a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque control. This prevents overtightening, which is especially important for particleboard to avoid damaging the material. For bits, Phillips (PH2) and, if necessary, Allen keys are usually sufficient. A small rubber or wooden mallet is also helpful for gently inserting wooden dowels or knock-in nuts without leaving marks.

In addition, a well-organized workbench or a large cardboard table is useful for laying out all parts and screws clearly. This helps avoid grabbing the wrong pieces or wasting time searching, which speeds up the assembly.

A cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque is essential. For precise work, also have a Phillips screwdriver ready. A rubber mallet protects the material. Otherwise, good organization of the parts is the only help.

Using a cordless screwdriver with adjustable torque is actually crucial for a clean Besta assembly, as Ikea furniture often consists of delicate materials. Additionally, the bit size should fit exactly to avoid damaging the screws. Another important aspect is preparation: sorting and numbering the workpieces makes the process much easier.

This recommendation is absolutely correct, as most Besta parts use these screw profiles. However, one should never improvise by using screwdrivers that don’t fit precisely, as this can quickly cause cam-out.

A cordless screwdriver with torque adjustment is a must.

I want to emphasize this point again. Without torque control, you risk overtightening the screws, which compromises stability and damages the material.

Most of the time, I find the instructions difficult to follow, and when screwing, I become unsure whether everything is tightened enough. One tip that has helped me a lot is to first screw in the screws loosely and then tighten them in a second pass. This way, you can avoid shifting or misaligning parts in the heat of the moment.

I also always use a padded surface for the parts to prevent scratches – that always bothers me afterwards. It’s nice to see that this topic is discussed here in relation to tools as well, because often people think a screwdriver is enough, but there are simply better options.

I would like to add here that, in addition to the tools already mentioned, using small clamps or clips can be helpful to hold parts in place during assembly. This is especially useful with Besta furniture, where panels often need to be temporarily held parallel, making precise screwing much easier.

Another point is the use of fine-thread screws or inserts if replacement parts are needed – a suitable screw set from a specialized retailer can simplify repairs afterward.

Exactly, this technique protects both the material and the screws, making the furniture stable and durable.
