ᐅ Which surface finish for the garage door?

Hello,

we are currently looking for a suitable prefabricated garage. We initially wanted an anthracite-colored sectional door with a "woodgrain" finish, meaning this wood-look texture. This was also recommended to us by a garage builder (as scratches can be repaired more easily). However, another garage builder advised us against the "woodgrain" finish, saying it would cause unattractive reflections on an anthracite color and that we should choose a smooth surface instead.

What type of surface do you have on your garage door?

Best regards,
Sabine

How do you get metallic from that? The surface is more matte than glossy, and the "wood texture" is only really visible up close. From a distance, it just looks like an anthracite-colored gate.

We have this relief texture as an anthracite sectional door, and it looks classy and nice. Of course, with M-ribs.

Brief regards

So you have this wood-look surface? Does it look strange under any lighting conditions? I really like it too, and I think small scratches will be less visible on it.

Best regards

We have just installed a 5m (16.4 ft) sectional door in anthracite woodgrain finish. It looks great and so far everyone I've spoken to likes it. No strange reflections!

I would say you won’t see scratches on any of the surfaces. It should actually be through-colored.
Because of the wood grain texture, scratches would be less noticeable. However, the gate should be sturdy enough so that it doesn’t get damaged easily.

Nothing looks strange there, nor is it supposed to appear metallic or have a metallic color. I don’t think @11ant means that; it is simply a broken texture, without any intention of looking artificial.

Solid color throughout? - I’m not sure. I suspect a coating with black plastic at the core. I know what it looks like, but I didn’t know the name, so I searched “woodgrain garage doors” in Google Images; I can see them live next to my local Volksbank branch. In my opinion, it is meant to imitate painted rough-sawn boards.
