Hello everyone,

I am currently about to assemble the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and wonder which instructions best help to make the process as simple, efficient, and error-free as possible.

I am interested not only in the original IKEA manual but also in alternative aids such as video tutorials, PDF instructions, blogs, or perhaps specific tips that you have found particularly useful in practice.

Is there a version that significantly simplifies the assembly process, especially for DIY beginners or people with little experience? Or maybe a method that also offers clear advantages for more experienced home builders?

I appreciate detailed feedback, including common pitfalls, so I can prepare myself as well as possible.

I can only agree with that.

At the beginning of my assembly, I was quite unsure and kept referring back to the instructions. Especially the first time connecting the large panels was nerve-wracking.

A tip from me: If possible, have someone help you. It not only makes the assembly easier but also reduces stress since you can ask questions and don’t have to face the packages alone.

About the content of the manual:
The original IKEA manual is technically clear and sufficient. All step-by-step visuals are precise.

For simplification, I recommend:
- Creating your own sequence with a checklist.
- Separately sorting screws and parts (for example, in small bowls).
- Pre-drilling or checking all holes before assembly, if necessary.

Common mistakes include incorrect placement of connecting pieces (e.g., dowels inserted incorrectly) or overlooking intermediate parts. The manual shows these, but it is not completely foolproof.

I have a structured approach that often helps:

1. Sort all parts by type and number.
2. Get an overview of all the steps in the instructions—this helps you understand what to do and when.
3. Use the PDF instructions on a tablet. The zoom function makes it much easier to see small details.
4. Before each step, double-check the correct orientation of parts—many mistakes happen because parts are inserted the wrong way.
5. After assembling parts, fit them together temporarily before tightening screws permanently.

I have noticed that beginners often screw too quickly and don’t align parts properly. This leads to extra time spent on corrections later.

Thank you for all the helpful tips so far.

I’m also interested to know if anyone has specific experience with recommended video tutorials for the Brimnes. Is there a particularly good source or video that clearly explains all the complicated parts?

Are there any useful tricks that typical instructions often don’t cover but really help in practice – for example, when aligning the doors or preventing screws from being overtightened?

So, what practical experience makes the assembly noticeably easier?

Regarding video tutorials:

There are some useful videos available, although a few are somewhat roughly edited or demonstrate certain steps only superficially.

My favorite is a video that covers all construction phases from start to finish, including tips on installing dowels and hinges. The presenter also explains common mistakes and how to avoid them.

Additionally, when adjusting the doors, you should frequently test their function before fully tightening the screws. Using letters or thin wooden shims as spacers can also help prevent binding.

Another important detail is to first insert the screws loosely, then gradually tighten them to avoid stress in the furniture.

I also consider this a crucial point. Especially with cabinets like the BRIMNES, it is essential not to fully tighten the screws immediately.

Additionally, I recommend installing and aligning all drawers before hanging the doors. This step helps prevent problems with closing later on.

Regarding videos: Although they often take more time, most tutorials clearly show how the screws should be placed and how the parts fit together – which is sometimes less intuitive in the printed instructions.
