Hello everyone, I recently purchased some Ikea Brimnes furniture, specifically dressers and wardrobes, and I’m wondering how long the hinges actually last in practice.
I’m not just referring to the theoretical specifications, but your real-life experiences: do the hinges on Brimnes furniture often have issues after six months, more than a year, or even several years? How sturdy do you find the mechanism with daily use—for example, opening and closing the doors every day?
I’m also interested in whether these hinges are easy to adjust, if they tend to sag or make noise over time, and how they hold up with intensive use.
Perhaps someone even has tips on how to extend their lifespan or what challenges to watch out for during assembly. Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I have had Brimnes furniture for about three years and can tell you that the hinges were a bit stiff at first, which was annoying because I was afraid they might break easily. By now, they are much smoother, even though I use the cabinet doors daily. That sounds interesting – do you feel like the hinges have "worn in"? Or was the initial stiffness possibly due to the assembly process?
I find the discussion here a bit too optimistic when it comes to Ikea. Sure, the Brimnes hinges often hold up well, but in the long run, these are not high-quality furniture fittings.
That’s exactly the crux of the matter: if you don’t do this, you’re out of luck. The average user expects furniture to last for years without any effort. Ikea sells emotions and design, not durability.
If you value durable hinges, it’s better to invest a bit more.

It is important to install them exactly according to the instructions and to regularly tighten the screws slightly.

It’s good to hear that longer durability is definitely possible. However, in my case, the doors are opened quite frequently throughout the day – so I will probably need to check the screws regularly.
Does anyone have experience with how many years can realistically be expected before a hinge definitely needs to be replaced? And are there spare parts available from Ikea, or do you have to look elsewhere?
