Hello everyone, I recently bought some IKEA Brimnes furniture, mainly cabinets with doors, and I’ve noticed that the doors don’t close properly. They stick in some places, are not flush, or hang slightly crooked. I’m interested in how to correctly adjust the doors of the IKEA Brimnes furniture so they close cleanly and evenly. Are there specific adjustment screws or mechanisms one should be aware of? If so, what is the best way to adjust the doors? I have already looked through the assembly instructions, but the adjustments are only briefly mentioned there. Thanks for your tips!

That’s right, the sequence helps. I would also add that it’s best to start with the vertical screw at the very top and then work from the middle downwards if multiple hinges are being installed.

Ha, I know the Brimnes doors and their quirks well! My advice: It’s best to place the furniture where it will eventually stand. If the floor is uneven, it can affect the door alignment. So first align everything properly, then adjust the screws. And always test step by step – door open, door closed – until everything runs smoothly.

Keep in mind that doors can sag slightly over time. If you have multiple doors, you should adjust each one individually and then check how they affect each other.

Finally, the depth: The depth adjustment ensures that the door does not catch when closing.

That sounds reasonable. I have tried a bit, but with the depth adjustment, I can only make small changes. Could it be that the hinges on Brimnes offer only limited adjustment range? Or are there hidden mechanisms that need to be considered to really improve how the door closes?

I wouldn’t say there are hidden mechanisms since IKEA is generally designed to be straightforward. The issue is more likely that the doors or the cabinet frame are slightly warped or have expanded due to moisture. As a result, the adjustment range of the hinges might be technically sufficient but not enough to fully address the actual problem. You could check if the furniture is perfectly level and if the base panel is warped. This helped me quite a bit.

I loosened the screws on the side of my Brimnes doors, properly aligned the doors, and then tightened the screws again. I focused on the vertical screw because the horizontal ones had little effect for me.
