Hello everyone,

I recently purchased some furniture from the IKEA Brimnes series, including cabinets and dressers, and I am increasingly concerned about how sturdy these pieces are with frequent use—especially regarding the hinges, drawer load capacity, and the durability of the joints. It is important for me to know whether this furniture holds up well after several years of intensive use or if there are typical weak points to consider before buying. Perhaps there are experienced users or assembly experts here who can provide informed insights on this.

Since BRIMNES is relatively affordable, I sometimes worry that its stability might not be as good as that of more expensive collections. I would appreciate any serious evaluations, including suggestions on how to potentially improve its longevity. Thanks in advance!

Hello Hauka,

Your question is very valid since BRIMNES is one of the popular series, but it can have certain weaknesses with frequent use. I will try to organize this clearly:

- Material quality: BRIMNES is mainly made of particleboard with a melamine coating, which is inexpensive and lightweight but less durable than solid wood.

- Fasteners: The furniture is joined using dowels, cams, and screws. It is important to assemble them correctly and tightly to prevent wobbling.

- Drawers: With frequent use, the fronts or the drawer slides can loosen, especially if heavy items are stored inside.

- Hinges: BRIMNES uses metal hinges that are fairly sturdy. Still, you should ensure they are not overloaded and occasionally adjust and lubricate them.

My advice:
- Check all screws again after assembly and tighten if necessary.
- Avoid placing excessive weight on the drawers.
- For increased stability, add corner braces or glue in the joints.

Conclusion: For the price, the furniture is solid enough for daily use, but you should not expect the durability of solid wood and should assemble it carefully.

I have had BRIMNES dressers in the bedroom for 3 years. They are sturdy as long as you don’t overload them. The drawers slide smoothly, and the hinges hold up well. I haven’t had any problems.

I have also been using BRIMNES furniture for some time now, and I often notice that it becomes a bit wobbly after extended use. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was just me imagining it, but with the drawers, it sometimes feels like the runners don’t engage as well.

What helps me is being patient during assembly and tightening the fittings again after a few months. I know it sounds simple, but I’ve realized that the furniture really needs to be readjusted. Otherwise, it can quickly become frustrating when something sticks or creaks.

Have you had similar experiences? It’s somewhat reassuring for me to know that wobbliness or minor signs of wear are normal and don’t necessarily mean the furniture is beyond repair.

That matches my observations. It is important to regularly check the furniture for stability, especially when drawers are opened and closed frequently.

Additionally, I recommend placing the furniture on a level surface to avoid unnecessary stress caused by uneven positioning. It can also help to reinforce critical joints with small wooden dowels and wood glue. This significantly increases strength.

Otherwise, BRIMNES furniture is quite durable for the price, provided the usage intensity is not exceptionally high. For commercial use or very heavy loads, I would suggest opting for more robust furniture.

Thank you for this assessment, it really helps me. I’m also interested in whether you have made any adjustments during assembly or later on using simple methods. For example, are there screws or joints that should be monitored closely?

I would like to avoid drawers loosening over time or screws coming loose, which could cause the entire chest of drawers to become unstable. What exactly have you done in such cases?
