Hello everyone,
I am currently considering purchasing some furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series, specifically beds, dressers, and wardrobes. Since I value durable and sturdy furnishings in my apartment, I am wondering how stable these Brimnes pieces actually are with frequent use.
Specifically, I’m interested in:
- How well do bed frames and slatted bed bases hold up to daily stress such as getting in and out of bed and heavy weight?
- How durable are the drawers and hinges with regular use, especially in dressers and wardrobes?
- Are there common issues with warping, wobbling, or wear in the wood-based materials and joints?
If anyone has experience, I would appreciate learning more about the everyday durability. Concrete tips for maintenance or improving stability are also welcome.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I have been using the Brimnes chest of drawers for nearly two years and am very satisfied! My drawers have not even started to come off track. As long as you don’t load it with extremely heavy items, the furniture shows hardly any wear.
A small tip: Pay close attention to every step during assembly, as this greatly improves stability! And if anything becomes loose, simply tightening the screws often helps. Just keep at it, and you will enjoy it for a long time!

I’m curious whether you regularly put heavy loads on the drawers and if you have noticed any wear on the slides or joints?
Additionally, I often see furniture showing typical signs of wear and tear after 3–5 years of frequent use, especially with more affordable particleboard furniture. Setting realistic expectations is therefore important.

I have the Brimnes drawers in my living room: constant use, drawers filled with kitchen and tech items. After a year, there was some slight sticking, but that was mostly because I forgot to lubricate the slides. Since then, everything has been running smoothly—literally 😄
An important aspect often overlooked with furniture like Brimnes is proper handling:
- Avoid excessive weight on individual drawers.
- Prevent impact loads, meaning do not sit or jump on the furniture.
- Regularly tighten screws to keep joints secure.
Following these guidelines significantly extends the service life. The construction is designed for normal use, but with careful handling, you can expect solid durability for 7+ years.

After tightening the screws again and reinforcing it with additional brackets from the hardware store, it is now completely stable.
Does this happen often with Brimnes? I just wanted to know if this is a common issue that can be easily fixed, or if I was just unlucky.

At first, there was some wobbling at the headboard attachment,Wobbling at the headboard attachment is a relatively common issue with furniture in this price range. The cause is often that the attachment holes or connection brackets are made from chipboard or MDF panels, which can flex slightly under load.
A simple solution with additional brackets or metal reinforcements is actually very effective and recommended.
For optimal stability, it is advisable to carefully tighten all connection points during assembly with the correct torque and, if necessary, retighten them after a few weeks, as the materials and screws may settle slightly.
