Good morning everyone,

I’m considering getting a Pax wardrobe from Ikea as I’m moving into a new apartment. As a single household, I want a wardrobe that is practical, space-saving, and flexible in design.

I’m interested to know: Which Ikea Pax models do you think work best for single households? I’m mainly thinking about sizes, interior fittings, and combinations that aren’t oversized but still offer a good layout for clothes, shoes, and accessories.

Do you have experience with which widths and depths work best? Or is it better to choose a narrow, tall wardrobe, or perhaps a model with several smaller units?

And what about the interior: More hanging rods, shelves, or drawers?

I look forward to your insights and tips!

Sliding doors are practical when space is limited.

Installation can be a bit tricky, but you get used to it quickly.

If you need a good overview, hinged doors are the better choice.

How do you rate the everyday practicality of sliding doors on Pax wardrobes?

From my experience, the sliding doors on Pax wardrobes are high-quality and durable, but you need some patience when adjusting the tracks. If they are not set correctly, the doors can stick or won’t slide smoothly.

The main advantage, of course, is saving space – especially in small rooms, it’s unbeatable. However, you lose the ability to quickly open both sides at the same time. For a single-person household, this is usually not a big issue.

One practical tip: pay attention to how heavy the doors are. For very large wardrobes, the doors get heavier and become harder to slide.

So if you have less than 150 cm (59 inches) width per wardrobe module, sliding doors are ideal.

Looking forward to what you ultimately decide.

A small additional tip regarding cabinets:

If you like to display small decorative plants or favorite items, you can consider a combination, for example, installing an open shelving section next to or between the Pax units.

This makes the overall look less rigid while also saving storage space.

That’s a great tip, KAUDRA62, thank you!

I hadn’t considered a combination of closed PAX wardrobes and open shelves before; that could also make the room look more pleasant.

I will probably go for two narrower 50 cm (20 inch) wide PAX units, each 58 cm (23 inch) deep, with hinged doors, plus some drawers and shelves.

I’ll still take a look at sliding doors in the store to get a feel for how they work.

Many thanks to everyone for the helpful answers and your patience!
