Hello everyone,
I am currently focusing on planning my new wardrobe solution and have been considering several models from the IKEA PAX system. My specific question is: Which IKEA PAX models offer the best space utilization, especially regarding adjustable configurations, flexible interior layouts, and the number of available width and height options? I am interested in the efficiency of the wardrobe models in terms of maximizing the use of the available footprint – including width, depth, and height. The possibilities for customized interior fittings that adapt well to different storage needs are also crucial for me.
Has anyone already gained practical experience or can provide a detailed assessment of the different PAX models (e.g., 50cm (20 inches), 75cm (30 inches), or 100cm (40 inches) wide variants, various height options), their interiors, and space efficiency? I look forward to well-founded recommendations, preferably with advice on which type generally offers more storage space on a comparable footprint and whether there are model- or group-specific peculiarities.
Thank you in advance!

Basically, the optimal use of space with the IKEA PAX system largely depends on the combination of wardrobe width, height, depth, and interior fittings.
- The 50 cm (20 inches) wide models are particularly flexible and suitable for smaller rooms or niches, as they can also be used in combination (e.g., two 50 cm (20 inches) units side by side). However, this often results in dead space due to gaps during installation.
- The 75 cm (30 inches) width is a good compromise and is the best choice for most standard rooms because it is wider without appearing bulky.
- The 100 cm (39 inches) wardrobes offer more storage space per unit but are less modular in combination.
Regarding height, 236 cm (93 inches) is the most commonly used standard as it fits well with ceiling height and makes good use of upper storage space. There are also 201 cm (79 inches) high versions for lower rooms.
In terms of depth, 58 cm (23 inches) is standard, but there are also 35 cm (14 inches) shallow options, which are less ideal for hanging clothes rods.
Concerning interior layout, wardrobes 75 cm (30 inches) wide or more often allow a divided interior setup (e.g., trousers hanger on the right, shelves on the left), making organization easier. The 50 cm (20 inches) versions are more limited in this regard.
My conclusion: For the best use of space with full flexibility and a good storage ratio, I recommend 75 cm (30 inches) wide, 236 cm (93 inches) high PAX units with 58 cm (23 inches) depth and a customized interior layout of shelves, drawers, and hanging rods. This usually allows ideal use of the available space.

I have a 75 cm (30 inches) wide PAX with a divided interior – it really helps keep things organized and prevents clutter. 😊
Additionally, I think it’s worth considering the 100 cm (39 inches) wide versions if the space allows. Sure, they’re not quite as flexible when it comes to renovations, but the extra storage capacity is noticeable.
And just to add: the 58 cm (23 inches) depth is actually the sweet spot, especially if you want enough room for hangers without having to constantly lean into the wardrobe.
Almost forgot: stacking one or two wardrobe boxes on top can significantly increase storage space in rooms with high ceilings, without taking up unnecessary floor area – this is also a smart way to make the best use of space!

This is standard and efficient.
50cm (20 inches) is too narrow for double division, 100cm (39 inches) often too bulky.
For low ceiling heights, choose 201cm (79 inches).
