Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install an Ikea Pax wardrobe system under a sloped ceiling in my home. The goal is to make the most of the available space without compromising stability and functionality. The slope is quite steep, and the ceiling height varies significantly, so I am considering whether it is possible to simply modify the standardized Pax components or if custom cuts are necessary. I am particularly interested in how you handle the installation of the side panels and back panels under these conditions, as well as recommendations for adjustable interior fittings to keep the space usable. Are there any tips for fastening, for example to the sloped ceiling or the floor area? Has anyone had experience with suspended installations, angled cuts, or modular systems to maximize storage capacity? I look forward to your advice and experiences on how to best install and adapt Ikea Pax wardrobes under sloped ceilings.

I can understand your uncertainty very well. For me, the sloped ceiling was also a real challenge, especially because I didn’t just want to place something, but had to plan for optimal use of space. I think it’s very important to take precise measurements of the sloped ceiling before installation, including any uneven areas.

That’s exactly the tricky part. I also considered shortening the sidewalls. In the end, I ordered the Pax wardrobes so that I could fit angled intermediate panels inside. That helped me keep the wardrobes stable. It’s also important not to forget the back panels, as they provide tremendous support. I’m happy to share more if you like.

Hello Lileri, I’m giving you a simple step-by-step guide that might help you:

- First, accurately measure the height and slope at the installation site, and mark the cutting lines on the Pax units.
- Cutting the side panels is necessary because the standard height is either insufficient or doesn’t match the slope.
- Tip: allow at least 2-3 cm (1 inch) of clearance at the highest point from the ceiling to avoid installation errors.
- Attach the back panels fully; they provide stability and hold the individual modules together.
- Use adjustable interior fittings, such as shelves and drawers, to adapt to the sloped space.
- For mounting under the roof slope, use brackets or special holders as needed to securely fix the cabinets.
- A common mistake is leaving out the back panels—make sure to avoid this.
- If insulation or the floor causes issues, consider using backing boards or special anchors here as well.

I hope this helps you get started.

When installing Ikea Pax wardrobes under sloped ceilings, it is important to consider structural stability and load transfer. The slope causes different stresses, so the connection between the wardrobe and the wall must be particularly secure. – The side panels of the Pax systems should be cut precisely to fit the slope, often using a miter saw. – The hardboard back panel not only stabilizes but also reinforces the structure, though it can be damaged on sloped ceilings. – For steep inclinations, it is advisable to secure the custom-sized panels around corners. – Inside, adjustable shelves should be used to optimize space utilization. – Attaching the wardrobe to the roof beams is preferable to fastening it only to the drywall, to ensure a secure anchor. – Optionally, swivel brackets can be useful to adapt the wardrobe to irregular slopes.

I installed a Pax wardrobe myself under a sloped ceiling. Important points: - Measure the slope precisely using a protractor. - Side panels don’t always fit perfectly, so sanding or cutting may be necessary. - Secure the back panels firmly, as they are important for the overall stability. - Install the interior shelves flexibly to make the best use of the space. - Always use strong screws and anchors suitable for the attic frame; do not use drywall anchors. This ensures your wardrobe stands securely.

A quick addition: Use templates or cardboard pieces that you shape beforehand to fit the slope and use as cutting patterns for your Pax elements. This makes the cutting more precise. In practice, it saves a lot of time.
