Hello everyone, I am currently planning to install an Ikea Pax wardrobe system under a sloped ceiling in my home. The goal is to make the most of the available space without compromising stability and functionality. The slope is quite steep, and the ceiling height varies significantly, so I am considering whether it is possible to simply modify the standardized Pax components or if custom cuts are necessary. I am particularly interested in how you handle the installation of the side panels and back panels under these conditions, as well as recommendations for adjustable interior fittings to keep the space usable. Are there any tips for fastening, for example to the sloped ceiling or the floor area? Has anyone had experience with suspended installations, angled cuts, or modular systems to maximize storage capacity? I look forward to your advice and experiences on how to best install and adapt Ikea Pax wardrobes under sloped ceilings.

For installation on a sloped ceiling, use brackets or special supports to securely fasten the cabinets.I can only confirm that. At first, I tried attaching them only to the wall. Once I started using brackets, the installation became much more stable. It simply feels more secure, especially because of the slope.
To add, after a few questions came up: When cutting, it is important to deburr the cut edges carefully to prevent the materials from fraying. If you shorten side panels, also check whether you need to adjust the drill holes for the shelves, as the standard hole pattern may no longer fit. Additionally, for a roof slope over 35 degrees, I recommend securing the cabinet not only to the back wall but also to the ceiling or roof battens. This ensures long-lasting stability. If anyone is considering covering a slope with laminated timber or cutting the back panel at an angle themselves: using paper or thin boards can help replicate the slope on the cabinet before cutting, to check the fit.

I also think that multiple attachment points are essential for the sloped area. How exactly did you install the brackets—did you screw them directly into the slope or rather onto a frame attached to the roof structure? Are special brackets required, or are standard brackets sufficient?
To answer Lileri’s question: Standard flat brackets from a hardware store are usually sufficient, provided they are robust enough and made from good material (at least 2.5 mm (0.1 inch) steel sheet). It is important to attach the brackets directly to load-bearing elements of the roof structure (roof beams, rafters), never just to drywall or thin panels. I also used self-drilling screws with large heads to increase the clamping force. Before installation, be sure to test the screw and screwdriver at the fastening points to ensure a secure grip, preventing any movement. This way, you achieve a long-lasting, stable anchoring of the Pax cabinets under the sloped roof.
