SitaboHello everyone, I am planning to place my Ikea Pax wardrobe in a room with a sloped ceiling and am wondering about the best way to do this to make optimal use of the available space while also using the wardrobes effectively. The slope is about 45 degrees, and space near the floor is naturally limited, but I want to avoid unnecessary gaps or unused space under the slope. Are there proven methods to position Ikea Pax wardrobes effectively in such rooms, or is it better to switch to custom-built interiors with specific measurements? I would appreciate any advice on planning, selecting widths and heights, or combining with other Ikea systems!
Dealing with sloped ceilings is really challenging. I had the same problem and understand how frustrating it is not to make the most of the storage space. In my experience, it pays off to think flexibly and not stick rigidly to fixed PAX dimensions, but to experiment with shelves and interior fittings. Perhaps a combination of low cabinets under the slope and taller units along the straight walls can help. I would also recommend measuring the slope carefully and considering where headroom is still needed. Often, choosing special doors, such as sliding doors that better accommodate the slope, can be useful. The psychological aspect should not be underestimated either: it can feel cramped at first, but a thoughtful plan can make a big difference.
From a technical perspective, the following points are important when planning Pax wardrobes for sloped ceilings: - Determining the maximum usable height at both the lowest and highest points - Choosing the Pax depth (35 cm (14 inches) or 58 cm (23 inches)) depending on available space - Using corner fittings and connectors to securely assemble the wardrobes - Planning the interior layout with drawers and adjustable shelves to make optimal use of the space - Instead of full wardrobes, Pax components such as wall cabinets or open shelving units can also be combined with Pax elements. Adjusting the doors is also crucial. Regular hinged doors are usually less suitable for slopes, while sliding doors or hinged doors with wider opening angles are better options.
Interesting thread. However, I wonder if with Ikea Pax you are too limited to the standard modules. Has anyone checked whether the shelves can be individually adjusted or shortened to better match the depth or height to the slope? Personally, more modular solutions with flexible dimensions might work better. Ikea presents Pax as a system, but how flexible is it really? I often see that many just assemble standard units, which leaves space unused.

Has anyone checked whether the shelves can be individually adjusted or cut to better fit the depth/height according to the slope?Yes, I have done this for some individual shelves. Ikea Pax boards can be fairly easily cut with a good saw. However, this requires careful work and may affect the warranty. For example, I customized some shelves to fit them under the slope. It’s important to measure carefully and take your time; otherwise, they won’t fit properly.
