Hello everyone, I am planning to get an Ikea PAX wardrobe but face the challenge of very limited space in my apartment. My main question is: Which of the different PAX modules from Ikea are the most efficient in terms of space utilization when the available area is small and tight? I am especially interested in dimensions, internal divisions, and the flexibility of the modules to make the best use of small niches without losing space due to thick side panels or impractical depths. Additionally, it would be great if someone could share experiences with the different depth options or narrower widths. Thanks in advance for any helpful answers!

Hey Holden, great topic! 😊 From my own experience, the 35cm (14 inch) deep PAX wardrobes are real space-savers! 👍 Especially when depth is an issue, you’ll find plenty of options to still create ample storage space. The narrower widths of 50cm (20 inch) instead of 75cm (30 inch) often fit better into tight corners and still provide a lot of flexibility for interior organization.

Holden, the 35cm (14 inches) deep modules are actually the most space-saving. Pay attention to the sliding doors, as they also save space because the door opening area is smaller.

In short: 35cm (14 inches) depth plus 50cm (20 inches) width, sliding doors, then you have optimal space utilization. The usual 60cm (24 inches) depths often don’t work in tight spaces.

A bit more detailed: The PAX frame with a depth of 35cm (14 inches) is ideal when there is limited space in front. The shallower depth naturally results in slightly less storage capacity, but with a well-planned interior layout—such as adjustable shelves and flexible clothing rods—small areas can be used efficiently. Also, consider the option of using the wardrobe without a back panel if you want to utilize the wall behind it. Regarding width, narrow 50cm (20 inches) modules often fit better, especially when combining multiple modules. Pay close attention to the door depth measurements, as some sliding doors are designed for 58cm (23 inches) depth and might cause issues with 35cm (14 inches) modules.

Tip: For tight spaces, choose the narrower widths of 50cm (20 inches) and the depth of 35cm (14 inches). With a depth of 35cm (14 inches), you need less space to open and gain more flexibility.
