Hello everyone,
I am currently looking for a suitable Ikea PAX model for a typical shared apartment room. The space is usually quite limited, so the wardrobe should be compact but still offer enough storage—mainly for clothes, shoes, and possibly some small items. It would also be practical if the model is relatively easy to assemble and flexible in design, since the shared living situation can change quickly. Are there any recommendations on which PAX variants work particularly well for shared apartment rooms? Maybe also experiences with specific widths, depths, or interior fittings? Thanks in advance!

Interesting question. Besides the overall size, I think the quality of the internal components should also be considered – some of the cheaper PAX models can feel unstable, especially when it comes to the drawers. Thanks for the input, Danial! That matches my impression that the flexibility of the interior fittings is crucial. How sturdy are the drawers and clothes rails in the shallower models? Does anyone know about differences in materials or additional reinforcements?

You can also customize the wardrobe with various internal organizer elements (drawers, clothes rails, shelves), which optimizes the storage space.I’d be interested to know if installing the internal components is straightforward and quick, especially for people who move frequently.
Hey pitibo,
I can reassure you that the Pax interior elements are really surprisingly flexible and very easy to install and reconfigure. I’ve moved a lot myself, and the wardrobe was always one of the most hassle-free pieces of furniture. And yes, the stability of the standard components is more than enough for shared apartments and everyday use.
If your room is very small, it’s better to choose a depth of 50 cm (20 inches) and add drawers and hooks to make the most of the storage space. Good luck!

I love my PAX wardrobe in the shared apartment room! 😍 A 100cm (39 inch) model with sliding doors worked perfectly for me because it saved space in front of the wardrobe. I also found the design super flexible – the interior layout can be easily adjusted, and I installed shelves, clothes rails, and even drawers as I wished. Just perfect for people who like to stay flexible! 💪

The idea of sliding doors sounds really interesting, especially for small shared rooms where saving space is a big advantage.
However, I’ve heard that sliding doors can be harder to clean. What have your experiences been? And are there versions where you can combine drawers and open shelves?
