Hello everyone, I am currently planning to equip my wardrobe with a custom-configured Ikea Pax system. I am especially interested in the doors, as they not only play a visual role but also need to be functional according to my requirements. My question is: Which Ikea Pax doors are currently the most popular, considering material, design, and functionality? Are there doors that have proven particularly reliable in terms of durability, ease of maintenance, or integration? I would appreciate any specific experiences, assessments, and tips for selection.

For ease of maintenance, matte lacquered fronts are recommended as they are more resistant to fingerprints.

That’s an important tip, thank you. I’m interested to know if anyone has specific experience regarding scratch resistance of the different surface types (glass, mirror, lacquer)?

For glass doors, you should also pay attention to the glazing: There is clear and frosted glass – frosted glass looks more elegant and offers more privacy.

Could someone share the pros and cons of frosted versus clear glass doors? I’m curious about the differences in light transmission and privacy.

Scratches on lacquered fronts are usually minor signs of wear but can often be minimized with suitable furniture care products. Mirrors and clear glass are somewhat more delicate because scratches are more noticeable on them. Frosted glass provides better privacy as it lets light pass through while blurring what is behind it. It is also somewhat less prone to fingerprints than clear glass. Those seeking more privacy prefer frosted glass. For rooms that require natural light, clear glass doors are more suitable as they allow more light to pass through.

Clear glass doors are usually more delicate. Frosted glass better conceals scratches and fingerprints. Choose frosted for more privacy.

Regarding scratches and long-term use:

- Frosted glass doors have a slightly rougher surface, which some people find more pleasant, but they are not impervious to damage. However, scratches are usually less noticeable on frosted glass than on clear glass.
- Painted fronts, depending on the finish (satin or high gloss), are generally durable, but glossy surfaces tend to show scratches more clearly.
- Mirrors can quickly develop small hairline cracks under heavy use, so sometimes a matte or satin finish version is worth considering.

For maintenance, I would recommend using microfiber cloths and mild cleaners to keep the surfaces intact for as long as possible.

If anyone is considering a combination of push-to-open doors and handles: the push-to-open versions are more sensitive to misuse. During installation, the hinges should be carefully adjusted.
