Hello everyone, I have a question for the community that I hope some experienced Ikea movers or furniture transporters can answer: How do you transport Ikea Brimnes furniture, especially wardrobes and beds, without them getting scratches or other visible damage during the move?
During my last move, I unfortunately got some slight scratches on the edges, even though I handled the furniture fairly carefully. It is probably due to the combination of the rather smooth surface and the thin components.
I am particularly interested in:
- Which protective materials are recommended (blankets, plastic wrap, padding)?
- How should the furniture be best positioned and secured to prevent slipping?
- Are there general tips to reduce the likelihood of damage?
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

I would like to point out that when loading the Brimnes, it is essential to be careful with the surface vulnerability at the joints.
During loading and unloading, corners can easily catch on door frames or vehicle walls.
- My tip: Tape these areas beforehand with painter’s tape, which acts as a buffer.
- Transport vehicle: If possible, use a panel van or transporter with sidewalls free of protruding screws or similar, to avoid scratches.
Sometimes stretch wrap can also provide additional protection if the furniture is well padded.

Hello, I often notice that proper preparation is crucial when transporting Brimnes furniture.
- If possible, fully disassemble the furniture by removing drawers, doors, and loose parts. These should be stored and transported separately in a secure manner.
- Avoid moving fully assembled furniture unnecessarily, as this increases the risk of scratches.
- Use breathable moving blankets because plastic wrap can trap moisture and cause damage over time.
- When lifting, always work with as many helpers as possible to prevent uncontrolled movements and impacts.
This way, you achieve the best possible protection for the Brimnes during transport.

These provide better protection than blankets and help preserve surfaces from dirt and scratches.
Furthermore: Use non-slip mats on the vehicle floor to prevent furniture from sliding and rubbing.
The finishing touch in protection is often in the details:
- Protect edges with foam padding,
- cushion covered surfaces with multiple layers of blankets,
- remove sharp or heavy items from the cargo area,
- secure furniture firmly with straps that do not rest directly on the surface.
All of this prevents scratches and pressure marks from the start.
I have transported Brimnes multiple times – with these measures, practically no transport damage.

If you transport the Brimnes upright, make sure all plug connections are secure and don’t wobble – loose parts can get damaged when tied down.I completely agree with that. Another important point is that especially the joints and edges must withstand all stresses.
For some furniture, it’s worth carefully tightening screws before transport—without over-tightening—to increase stability. This reduces the risk of parts coming loose and getting scratched.
