Hello,
for our garage extension, we need an entrance door. There are these affordable steel doors and insulated doors with the same look as the sectional garage door. We haven’t seen either of these doors in person, as none were installed in the garage showroom near us. Is a thin steel door sufficient, or would you not recommend it? What did you choose?
Best regards
Sabine

You can’t generalize this. If there is direct access from the garage into the house, the door definitely needs to provide a certain level of security.
In our case, the garage is attached to the house but without direct access. We are going to use a steel door with a corner frame. These are quite affordable, around 150-200€ (about $160-$215). They are galvanized and, in our case, primed white. You can paint them however you like. We will paint it in the same color as the window frames. It won’t be 100% identical but quite close. A side entrance door with glass from the window manufacturer would have cost us over 900€ (about $970). A similar door from the garage door manufacturer is also in this price range. So it always depends on the intended use, what looks good to you, and, of course, how much you want to spend.

A different aspect: where should the door be located? That is, will it be positioned together with the gate (next to it or around the corner), or will it be placed on the back side, making the two visually separate or "independent" from each other?

In my opinion, I would never do it this way again—it’s the wrong place to save money. I’m always worried that the handle will tear off the metal, as everything feels quite thin and a bit flimsy.
At the time of purchase, this was not specified in detail, unfortunately, but in hindsight, it was not possible to check all the details anyway.

We also installed the Hörmann standard steel sheet door on the side. The door is not a designer piece, truly just functional. But it’s not really flimsy. Well, at some point I’ll replace it with a nicer one. For now, it works. And it will probably last longer than you’d like. Karsten
