Thimmy_654818 Dec 2015 10:39Hello everyone,
I took over a Faktum kitchen from the previous tenant and ordered several additional components, including two wall cabinets with vertical lift doors measuring 92cm x 40cm (36 inches x 16 inches). Two of these cabinets are already installed, and the new ones are supposed to be mounted above them.
Since these wall cabinets are already quite heavy and will be filled later on, it would be great if you could advise me on which wall anchors and screws to use. Unfortunately, it is not possible to find out how the existing cabinets are fixed and how secure their mounting is.
According to the landlord, the walls are made of lightweight concrete (aerated concrete).
Advice from hardware stores has been inconsistent, with every place giving different recommendations.
Is there anything else to consider when stacking these wall cabinets vertically?
Thanks a lot for your help.

I am not familiar with "Bimszement." Maybe you mean pumice concrete? From a distance, I can’t really advise you. Just try drilling a hole in the wall to see how it is constructed. Solid bricks? Hollow blocks? What exact material?
It should be possible to find out how the already hanging cabinets are fixed. Just take one down briefly.
Regards, Wolfgang

Herr rossi18 Dec 2015 14:41Hi Thimmy,
I can only agree with wolf2000. Drill a test hole, check the dust that comes out, see if the drill goes smoothly into the wall, and so on. For normal walls, I use 6x80mm (1/4 x 3 1/8 inch) hex-head anchor bolts, along with appropriately long anchors. If the wall is very crumbly, I would use adhesive anchors with some kind of cement. These are available, for example, from a company that also manufactures heavy-duty power drills.

IKEA-Experte18 Dec 2015 16:27Mr. Rossi, can you access the lock on the suspension through the hexagon? I have always used wood screws with a round head.
My recommendation for all mineral-based walls, where the thickness of the plaster and load-bearing layers is unknown:
Use "Fischer SX" anchors for 8mm (5/16 inch) drill holes and 60mm (2.4 inch) length. At the large DIY store with B...... you can find Fischer anchors, but unfortunately not at my favorite hardware store with H.......
The cheap expansion anchors (also available from Fischer as Fischer S) only work well in concrete. In old plaster, the hole may start to crumble when screwing in, but then the SX anchor begins to "knot" itself, causing the anchor to shrink in length while getting thicker and firmly filling the void. I hope this makes some sense. The condition for this is that the screw is longer than the anchor, so that the tip extends beyond the end of the anchor; only then does the knotting work when tightening the screw.
For screws, it’s best to use 6x80mm (1/4 inch x 3 inch) with a round head, as Ikea-expert already recommended. Hex screws are also suitable, of course, but after fastening you won’t be able to properly clip the plastic cover for the bracket, especially on wall cabinets where it’s visible. It’s best to use screws with a Torx head, as the bit won’t slip during screwing.
By the way, Faktum wall cabinets should be installed by two people. One holds the cabinet while the other tightens it with a drill, watching a level placed inside. You may have to loosen the screws a turn or two and realign the cabinet horizontally while retightening, holding the adjustment shims in place. Installing a Faktum wall cabinet alone is a guaranteed recipe for swearing fits.
