Hello everyone, some time ago I purchased several Ikea Besta units, which I really appreciate, especially for their modern design and everyday practicality. However, I am considering how to extend the lifespan of my Besta furniture by using suitable care products. Which maintenance products are best suited not only to clean the material—particularly the surfaces made of MDF boards with laminate coating—but also to protect them from wear, fading, or moisture? Additionally, I am interested in any specific care tips that can help prevent issues such as scratches or minor damage. Perhaps someone has long-term experience with selecting the right products or can recommend proven home remedies that help maintain the appearance and durability of the furniture over time. Thank you for your support!

Hello Kozikmund, as a general rule, it is advisable to clean the Ikea Besta furniture regularly and carefully, avoiding aggressive cleaning agents. The surfaces are usually made of foil-covered MDF panels, which can be sensitive to harsh chemicals. For protection and maintenance, I would recommend:

- Use mild dish soap in lukewarm water and wipe with a soft cloth
- Furniture care products based on silicone or beeswax can occasionally protect the surface, but check for compatibility with foil finishes
- Avoid direct moisture, so never use a dripping wet cloth
- Scratches are best repaired with small touch-ups using matching markers or furniture repair sticks

Additionally, it helps not to expose the furniture to prolonged moisture directly and to avoid placing heavy or sharp objects without protection.

So you suggest applying a protective layer to preserve the laminates? That’s an interesting idea, but I wonder to what extent these care products might cause long-term damage themselves, for example through residue buildup or altered surface texture. Most Ikea Besta surfaces are not solid wood-based but rather delicate laminates. I doubt all products are truly suitable.

I think it is important to test care products first on an inconspicuous area – what do you recommend for such tests? And are there verified experiences regarding which actual products work best to prevent the laminates from sticking or hardening?

This is a very important tip. Basically, when caring for IKEA Besta furniture, it should be noted that the surfaces are usually lacquered or foil-covered particleboard or MDF panels. Mechanical stress, moisture, and aggressive cleaning agents can cause damage.

For cleaning, IKEA itself recommends mild, neutral cleaning products without abrasives. For the care and protection of the surface, wax-based products are either unnecessary or even counterproductive, as they can leave deposits and potentially damage the foil.

My practical advice:
- Mild cleaning with a soft cloth and gentle cleaning agent
- Avoid standing moisture
- Small scratches can be concealed with an appropriate furniture touch-up marker (color matched to the furniture)
- A furniture paint pen might help if the thickness and texture of the Ikea foil are known

In summary: The best care for Besta furniture is gentle, regular cleaning and mechanical protection, without the continuous use of oil- or wax-based products.

Hello everyone! I have had my Ikea Besta furniture for several years and I am really very satisfied because I rely on simple but effective care. The most important tips from my experience:

- For cleaning, I prefer to use a slightly damp microfiber cloth to avoid scratches
- Just a few drops of mild dish soap in the water is completely sufficient
- Occasionally, I use a furniture care spray without silicones, which protects the surface and gives it a nice shine; it also keeps dust away for a while
- For scratches: I use special furniture markers, available in various colors at hardware stores

It’s simply enjoyable when the furniture looks well cared for and feels that way too. So, no worries about the Besta furniture! With a little care, it lasts a very long time!
