Hello everyone,

I am currently working on assembling IKEA Metod drawers and want to make sure I follow all the assembly steps correctly.

I am especially interested in which assembly steps are particularly important for the drawers within the Metod system to ensure not only stability but also functionality – that is, smooth opening and closing.

It would also be helpful to know the exact order in which the parts should be put together and if there are common mistakes to watch out for. The installation of the drawer slides and the alignment of the fronts are giving me some trouble.

Does anyone have experience with a step-by-step assembly of these drawers and can describe it in detail? I’m looking for a thorough overview of the necessary assembly steps to avoid any problems.

Thank you very much in advance for your support!

Hello Sufa35,

I have assembled several IKEA Metod drawers and would like to provide you with a clear step-by-step guide including common tips:

- First, sort all parts and check against the included instructions to ensure all screws, slides, and wooden components are complete.

- Start by assembling the drawer box (side panels, bottom, and back panel). Make sure to position the wooden dowels correctly and avoid tightening the screws too much to prevent the wood from splitting.

- The next important step is mounting the drawer slides (or runners) on both the box and the drawer itself. Pay close attention to the markings or pre-drilled holes; otherwise, the drawer won’t fit properly into the kitchen front.

- When installing the slides, ensure they are perfectly parallel and level so the drawer doesn’t stick or run unevenly.

- After that, insert the drawer and check that it opens and closes smoothly.

- Finally, attach the drawer front. Metod drawer fronts are usually fixed from the back using locking clips. It helps to first loosely attach the front, align it correctly from the front, and then tighten the screws.

Common mistakes include misaligned slides, over-tightened screws (especially on the box), or a poorly adjusted front that causes sticking or uneven fitting.

Summary:
- Check parts
- Build the drawer box
- Install slides, ensuring they are parallel and level
- Insert and test the drawer
- Attach and align the drawer front

If you want, I can also share some tips on fine-tuning the front panel adjustment.

Good luck!

This is absolutely important. I would even recommend visually inspecting the drill holes on the drawer sides. Minor deviations in manufacturing cannot be completely ruled out, even with IKEA.

Now the key is to install the drawer slides, or drawer runners, both on the cabinet body and on the drawer itself. Be sure to follow the markings or drill holes exactly, otherwise the drawer will not fit the kitchen front.

This is often where problems occur. The Metod system rails are sensitive if they are not mounted perfectly parallel. It’s best to use a spirit level or a thin ruler to check the alignment. A one millimeter (0.04 inch) deviation can cause annoying wobbling later on.

Also, pay attention to the assembly order of the drawer sides: first attach the sides, then click in the bottom panel, and finally insert the back panel. This ensures a stable construction. If you want to adjust the drawer later, the adjustable clips on the front panel allow flexible alignment.

One more tip: avoid using a cordless screwdriver with too much torque. Especially with the small screws for the slides, this can quickly cause cross-threading or damage.

In summary, I recommend:
- Visual inspection of the drill holes
- Precise alignment of the drawer slides with a spirit level
- Assembly order for the cabinet: sides – bottom – back
- Use adjustable front panel mounting
- Apply gentle screwing force

If you aim for perfection, it’s worth doing each step carefully and patiently.

What about you – do you want to adjust the drawers yourself or have the furniture store handle it?

I would like to add that when assembling the IKEA Metod drawers, it is important to follow the correct order for fastening the screws.

Especially when attaching the drawer front, it helps to first secure all the fastenings of the drawer slides and only then mount and adjust the front panel. This way, you can stabilize the drawer slides before fine-tuning the front.

Also, if you are working with soft-close drawers, the dampers should be checked and adjusted only at the very end to avoid damage during assembly.

It is also important to pay attention to the installation height of the drawer — when installing multiple drawers within the cabinet, the lower slides must be perfectly horizontal to prevent the drawer from sticking later.

Last but not least: avoid rushing the assembly, even if the instructions seem simple. Careful adjustment of all parts will prevent issues in daily use.

If anyone has further questions about fine-tuning the fronts, I’m happy to help.
