Hello everyone, I have a specific issue with my IKEA Metod countertops. After some use, several small scratches have appeared that are quite visible. Since the surface is rather matte, these scratches stand out and bother me a lot.
I don’t want to replace the entire countertop right away, as that is quite expensive and complicated. Are there any proven methods or products to remove these scratches or at least significantly reduce their appearance? I am especially interested in techniques that work with this particular plastic surface without causing further damage.
Tips on how to prevent new scratches would also be great. Looking forward to your experiences and advice!

Does anyone have experience using heat or steam cleaners on such countertops to remove scratches or for surface maintenance?I strongly advise against it. The plastic coating can swell, warp, or even discolor when exposed to heat. Steam cleaners produce high temperatures and moisture that can damage the material. Mechanical methods and appropriate care products are the proper way to maintain the surface.
I can well understand how frustrating it is when scratches immediately catch your eye – especially when you put a lot of effort into the kitchen.
It is important that you don’t get overwhelmed by the tips here. Small scratches are almost always part of it, and as time goes by, you’ll naturally accumulate some. Maintenance is more a matter of routine, and if it ever becomes too much, you can always replace individual sections.
Don’t lose heart – kitchens are living spaces after all!

Important: Always test each step first on an inconspicuous area to check the effect. Thanks, that’s a great tip! I’ll do some tests tomorrow to see how the surface responds in terms of color and texture.
Does anyone have experience with specific brands or products for plastic polish that work especially well on matte surfaces? I’d like to benefit from your practical knowledge.
