Hello everyone, I am planning to expand my IKEA Brimnes shelving system and am looking for detailed information about connection options for additional shelf units.

Specifically, I am interested in what possibilities exist for attaching extra shelves or modules beyond the standard BRIMNES units.

Is this achievable with IKEA-original accessories, or would modifications or compatible products from other series be more practical?

What about stability and mounting, especially when adding multiple extra shelves?

I look forward to your experiences, tips, or advice, especially if anyone has successfully used specific connectors or fastening methods.

From a practical standpoint, there are no official IKEA connection solutions for extending Brimnes shelving units. For additional shelves, it is recommended to use:

- Metal wall brackets (for example, 30x30cm (12x12 inches))
- The hole spacing in the shelf as a fixed reference point
- Adjust the height and depth of the new shelves to match BRIMNES (40cm (16 inches) depth, typical height 30–35cm (12–14 inches))

Keep in mind that the load-bearing capacity of such extensions largely depends on how securely they are attached to the wall. Otherwise, safety issues may arise.

Conclusion: IKEA-certified accessories are not available; only manual modifications or third-party products are possible.

In short: You need angle brackets and suitable screws to attach shelves on the sides.

IKEA accessories for this purpose are not directly available, but other shelves and brackets work well if the measurements fit.

I understand well that people can feel uncertain with such requests because the balance between stability and suitable components is not always straightforward.

For many here, it helps to start step by step with small extensions and to reconsider the load limits.

If it doesn’t work with the official accessories for BRIMNES, it makes sense to get advice at a hardware store and to design your project as openly as possible.

I think it’s good that you’re approaching this topic thoroughly because that way many smart tips can come together, and you don’t just start building without a plan.
