Hello everyone, I am planning to move soon and own some furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series, including wardrobes and dressers. Since this furniture is relatively sturdy but made of coated wood panels, I’m concerned about how to best prepare it for the move to avoid damage such as scratches, chipped edges, or warping.

My question is: How can I better prepare Ikea Brimnes furniture for moving so that it is well protected during transport and while loading and unloading? Besides removing doors or shelves, what additional measures are recommended? Are there proven methods to securely fix or cushion certain parts that you would suggest?

I look forward to practical tips and experiences that can help me transport my furniture stress-free and safely during the move.

To prepare Ikea Brimnes furniture for a move, I recommend a structured approach:

- Disassemble all doors, drawers, and if possible, back panels to prevent movement and damage.
- Label and store all screws in clearly marked bags, ideally matching the parts.
- Use furniture blankets or thick blankets to wrap the furniture pieces, especially around corners and edges.
- For additional protection, bubble wrap can be useful on particularly vulnerable areas.
- Secure loose parts with painter’s tape, not adhesive tape, to avoid damaging surfaces.
- During transport, furniture should be loaded upright and securely fastened to prevent shifting.

These steps reduce the risk of mechanical damage and surface issues during the move.

Absolutely! I once used old blankets, and the movers really had a tough time on moving day, but my Brimnes cabinet doors were perfectly protected 😅. Also, for storing screws, small plastic containers (like Tupperware) are great – never lost anything again!

Oh, and if you leave the drawers inside: a few clamps or straps around them work wonders to keep them from falling out while carrying.

Basically, when dealing with Brimnes furniture, it is important to stabilize the furniture parts as much as possible. This means not only removing doors and drawers but also taking out shelves to prevent them from shifting or falling out during transport.

For packing, I recommend:
- Using a furniture blanket to protect against scratches
- Adding extra cushioning to corners with foam or bubble wrap
- Avoiding direct tape on surfaces to prevent residue

Additionally, take photos before disassembly to remember the order and orientation of the parts later. This saves time and frustration during reassembly.

Remove doors and drawers, collect screws in small bags, cover furniture with blankets. Do not transport lying down.

This is a crucial tip. I would also recommend clearly labeling each packing bag and all parts, and possibly noting down which piece of furniture and which component they belong to.

Additionally: clean the furniture before disassembly. This prevents dirt or dust from settling into the gaps during the move, which could cause scratches.

When padding, it’s best to use a combination of blankets and bubble wrap to protect the furniture all around.
