Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion on the topic "How stable are IKEA Brimnes cabinets when fully loaded?" Specifically, I am interested in how these cabinets perform in everyday use when completely filled with heavy items, such as heavy books, kitchen utensils, or other household goods. Are the cabinets still safe, especially regarding their stability and sturdiness? Are there any experiences on whether they warp over time or if there are issues with the load capacity of the shelves? I look forward to your informed opinions or tips on how to ensure these pieces of furniture remain durable even when used to their full capacity.

Hey Bufiman! I have a Brimnes wardrobe at home, which I’ve filled quite fully with books – some pretty heavy volumes. 🤓 So far, everything looks fine, no leaning or anything. Of course, the wardrobe can’t handle the weight of a solid wood shelf made from hardwood, but for IKEA standards, I’m quite satisfied. Just don’t overload the shelves all at once and always distribute the weight evenly. This helps prevent the shelves from sagging. And of course, fastening it to the wall really makes a difference in stability!

Hello Bufiman, I would like to go into more detail here, as the question is quite complex. IKEA Brimnes cabinets, like many of their furniture pieces, are made of engineered wood panels, mostly particleboard with a melamine-coated surface. These materials are generally not designed to carry extremely heavy loads, as they can give way over time under point loads. When fully loaded—that is, when each shelf is used up to the recommended maximum weight—deflection can actually occur over time. This especially affects the middle shelves when heavy weight is placed on smaller support areas. My advice would be to carefully check the manufacturer’s specifications for the maximum weight per shelf before purchase and also to pay attention to the following in everyday use: - Even distribution of weight across the shelf - Avoiding excessive overloading of individual compartments - Regular inspection of metal brackets and connections Additionally, wall anchoring provides an important safety advantage, as it prevents the cabinet from tipping over due to loading. Do you have specific weight values or usage scenarios in mind?

Hello, I would like to add that the stability of furniture like the Brimnes wardrobe can also be significantly influenced by the assembly process. Make sure all fasteners are tight and the assembly instructions are followed precisely. Incorrectly or loosely assembled furniture is more likely to be damaged under full load than properly assembled pieces. Using the included back panel also contributes to stability – it reinforces the frame and prevents twisting. In general, lightweight materials such as particleboard are more prone to structural weaknesses under load, so I find them sufficiently stable for average use. For particularly heavy items, I would recommend more robust materials or additional reinforcements.

I am a huge fan of Brimnes! 😄 My shelves are fully loaded, sometimes with heavy items like tools and books, but so far the furniture hasn’t made a sound. Maybe I’m lucky, but in my opinion, the stability is excellent if you assemble it correctly and make sure to fix it to the wall. For the price, you get a lot of storage space and something sturdy enough for everyday use! Definitely recommended for people who don’t want the most expensive furniture but still need a good balance of function and stability.

Brimnes is stable under normal use. Distribute the load evenly, secure the back panel, and perform wall mounting. Then it will hold up well. No special treatment is necessary.
