ᐅ Are there IKEA PLATSA models with particularly durable shelves?

finbar36Hello everyone, I am currently looking into the IKEA Platsa system and plan to build a shelf that can carry as much weight as possible. Therefore, my question is: Are there any shelves within the different PLATSA models or variants designed to support particularly heavy loads? I am not looking for standard shelves but ones specifically designed for heavier items – ideally with information on maximum load capacity or special materials or reinforcements. Who has experience with this or can offer recommendations?

There are no special "extra strong" shelves available for PLATSA. Thank you, that confirms my suspicion. Does IKEA officially provide technical data regarding the load capacity of the standard PLATSA shelves? Unfortunately, I couldn’t find reliable information in the product details. Maybe someone has a datasheet or experience-based values on how many kilograms can safely be placed on a single shelf?
The official load capacity information for the PLATSA shelves is indeed quite vague. Typically, load capacities of around 15-20 kg (33-44 lbs) per shelf are indicated, assuming the load is evenly distributed. Higher loads require additional reinforcement measures, as the particleboard can otherwise sag. The width and depth of the shelf are also crucial, since larger spans are less stable.

Rashadmeo1 Dec 2021 13:18Hey, a few months ago I used a PLATSA shelf as a shoe cabinet and placed quite a few shoes on it – had no issues with sagging shelves! 🙂 However, I didn’t put more than 10 kg (22 lbs) on each shelf. For heavier items, I would still be cautious and maybe consider wooden or metal shelves.
