Hello everyone, I recently bought an IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am currently trying to assemble it. I noticed that there are some steps in the assembly process that can easily lead to mistakes. I am particularly interested in knowing: What are the most common errors when assembling IKEA Brimnes furniture, especially when installing the drawers and back panels? Are there typical pitfalls that should definitely be avoided to complete the assembly without rework or damage? I would appreciate it if anyone with experience could share their tips or warnings.

I have a question for you: Have you been able to determine whether the parts are well prepared and free of warping?Thank you for your detailed post, FAZAR! In fact, when unpacking, I did not notice any significant warping; the boards were quite flat and all parts were free of visible damage. However, I did notice that some of the drill holes are quite tight – you really need to handle them carefully to avoid any damage. Otherwise, I am currently trying to position the drawer slides precisely, but since variations of just a few millimeters (inches) can affect their function, I am proceeding very cautiously.

since deviations of just a few millimeters can already affect the functionThis is exactly a critical point! What I always recommend is to take your time with the alignment and check every position with a long ruler or a spirit level. Especially for drawer slides and side panels, precise adjustment helps a lot. A common mistake is also to skim through the instructions – instead, carefully read and follow each step. You should also make sure to tighten all screws by hand first and only fully tighten them at the end. This way, you avoid any distortions.
Yeah, great to see so many useful tips gathered here! I also found that the biggest challenge with the Brimnes wardrobe is the drawers themselves. There are so many adjustable parts, and especially the runners need to be perfectly aligned, otherwise the drawers stick and it gets really frustrating! But if you stay persistent and adjust everything carefully, the wardrobe is really enjoyable to use! So don’t give up! And another tip: if the drawers stick when sliding in, don’t force them in; instead, loosen the screws and realign them.

The back panel is often attached crooked or only partially fixed, which affects stability.I would like to emphasize this again. In addition to properly securing the back panel, the right angles should be checked before attaching it. This ensures optimal structural integrity. Especially with Brimnes, every millimeter counts; otherwise, a straightforward assembly can quickly become a frustrating process. If the back panel is installed crooked, it often leads to rocking movements of the cabinet or excessive stress on the drawer slides.
